Amazon.com acquiires dpreview

I think its great that Phil Askey has been able to take a hobby and turn it into such a going concern.

Not sure what the acquisition will mean long term, but the somewhat smaller acquisition of RFF by CameraQuest seems to be fine, in fact a good thing, so I hope the same is true at DPR.

dpreview.com is a good site for reviews. The discussions get a bit ... whatever ... but the reviews are top notch. If the acquision helps Phil and crew do more reviews, that'll benefit those of us who use the site.

Dpreview is the only site I can think of that provides such in depth and critical reviews. I mean, most sites give good info but totally "wuss" on being critical for fear of losing sponsors or cooperation from the camera companies. I really like and trust Askey's reviews. It makes me very nervous to hear of this acquisition. Just look what's happened to network news, after all. Only time will tell.....

Phil has always done a great job, a true 2nd Generation Internet Success (post bubble bursting). While I can see why the head bartender got this site, I'm baffled as to why Amazon wanted dpreview. I'm a bit concerned that Amazon might not let him say what ever he wants, only time will tell.

I don't understand why Amazon would want to do that. The reviews in their own realm are some of the most unreliable (from top-notch to out-of-the-arse) I've ever read.

Oh.
