Stephen does not pay anyone to do reviews of the merchandise that he sells, and there are no links back to "by here". He does not loan out merchandise for someone to review. I like to review lenses that I buy.
Too funny- I bought the first J3+, SN 00200, sold in the US from Lomo. I did a write-up for it. THEN they sent me a second lens as a gift, no mention of it until the Fedex notification came in. I optimized that one for the M Monochrom with an Orange filter.
DPR has (had) a paid staff to review merchandise.

Are you talking back to the RFF related chat or DPreview? In any case, an important information source (especially the gear database) would win me as a subscription customer to keep it up and running and invest some time for new entries.

Goes to show how the big 'A' thinks about photography in general to have had made such a big call as to cut off an influential online photography network .
I'll have second thoughts in ever purchasing from them again and use my buying power as consumerist activism.
My scary thought is that like meta the big A wishes everything it touches to be under its umbrella and to do so they're preparing for a global platform from which to influence perception and ultimately how we spend... 🥶

After reading the new TOS, I requested that my DPReview account and all posts on it be deleted.
They can use all of your photos and material on all of their websites, beyond just DPReview.
AND you also warrant that everything you post is correct and cannot cause harm to others.
I post DIY instructions in good faith, but warranting that it is "correct" and that someone cannot harm themself doing it?
"You represent and warrant that you own or otherwise control all of the rights to the content for the Services that you post or upload; that such content is accurate; that use of such content you supply does not violate this policy and will not cause injury to any person or entity; and that you will indemnify us for all claims resulting from such content you supply. More specifically, you are entirely responsible for each individual item of content that you post, email or otherwise make available via the Web Site. You understand that we do not control, and are not responsible for, third party content made available through the Web Site."

DPR is good for comparing cameras with glass (sometimes) on the comparison test shots. They all look the same though pretty much when making 16x20 prints.

and DPR comparisons don't account for printers' sharpening/printing skills. Maybe that's a good thing.

The warrant/accuracy bit is surely a pretty standard disclaimer, especially as it's not practical for them to check everything so as provider of the website they have to make sure they don't get any blame. The defence presumably is the make sure everything you post of a DIY nature is "do this as your own risk". Unfortunately self-styled and well-regarded "experts" (as it turns out... "incompetents" would be a better word in some cases) do post DIY instructions or advice on-line that some of us have had the misfortune to follow (because of the evidence kudos surrounding said "expert" - this was not photog-related btw); but I wouldn't expect to sue over it - least of all the website - though I do harbour a lingering grudge against the idiot concerned.
"Use of all your photos" is probably more about being able to re-arrange their platforms or use your pictures in marketing, or allow links etc. Unfortunate that they word it in such a non-specific way, reminds my of all those android apps that need all sorts of privileges.

The "Warrant" part is not used in the standard Xenforo license, is not used here nor on the other forums I'm on.
Yes I have not seen similar wording on other sites. I have zero desire to take part in their forums, but hope that Gear Patrol (never heard of them before) does a better job of moderation than the previous regime.
Will they be able to continue with the same high standards with regards to reviews and other specs/data is the question for me...

Maybe I was using them wrong, but the DPReview forums were always unusable for me. Something about how the implemented threading just made the entire experience feel like using a USENET reader in the 90s.
