scratch my niche
So I really want a DP0M that will give me corner-to-corner sharpness, resolution, micro-contrast, and color with a efov of 18-24 in a small digital package. Since the use is for landscape, the camera-lens combo wouldn't have to be blazing fast, have razor-thin DOF, etc.
But it really seems like excellent UWA performance generally is reserved for higher-tier models, and that compact and relative low cost are mutually exclusive.
I'll admit to be extremely tempted by the Sigma SD1 Merrill with the 8-16mm, but the size of the rig--admittedly not that big--is still big enough to ensure that I probably wouldn't take it with to the places for which I really want to use it (remote mountain areas accessible only by several days walk, generally speaking).
The Leica M9 is a good choice, but again, the cost of the body is expensive, not to mention the lens. The widest effective length I have in Leica M is an Elmar Asph M, one heckuva lens, but wider choices in digitally-compatible M land are either really expensive (21 SEM, 18 SEM, WATE) or else large (ZM 18)
Before I contemplate going back to chromes, just wanted to check with the hive mind for any good ideas.
