An Interesting Read ...

I stumbled upon the book "The Ongoing Moment" by Geoff Dyer yesterday while browsing through the photography section at Barnes & Noble. It seemed interesting so I purchased it and I have not been able to put it down. It is a wonderful read and thought I would let others know.

If you are between books and want something decent to read that is photography related then have a look. Everyone may already know about it. If so, then disregard 🙂

I read it the other week and agree that it is largely excellent. There were a couple of bits that I found heavy going about halfway through, but it came good again and gets a 'recommended' from me too.

I would also suggest that both An English Eye or Down teh Deep Lanes including the work of James ravillious are wonderful books - both are also available as second editions at about £20 new, so avoiding the high prices asked for second hand first editions now.

Down the Deep Lanes is available from the Beaford Archive

I got my copy of An English Eye from Amazon UK, but delivery was very slow. You can (and I would now) order this from the publisher Bardwell Press

Bardwell Press also link the you tube copy of the BBC documentary from the page - well oworth watching even if you do wish for more resolution.

I first found Dyer's book at the public library. I liked it so much I ended up purchasing a copy at the bookstore.

I like the way that he weaves common threads throughout the modern history of photography, for instance the image of the man in the hat that keeps recurring. He also does a good job of translating Roland Barthes into more understandable, everyman's language.
