Any current sources of good non-OEM Epson RD-1 batteries? Prefer 1500 mah. As most of us already know, these are the same battery as the Fuji NP-80.

I'd be willing to spend $10-15 each. The non-OEMs I have the ebay vendor is gone (they were good batteries, but only 1300 mah) and the $29 CTA battery that B&H sells is a bit pricey. I think the Epson Battery is pricey too.

If you don't want to post the vendor here, you can PM me. Thanks.

I'm using 1600mAh batteries by Techstep, which I bought from Dr Yao.

After some 9 months of (limited) use, I must say these batteries are not nearly as good as the original Epson battery. They last less long (meaning less than half the time of the Epson battery) and empty suddenly (and sometimes during a write) even though the power indicator still says there's juice left. They also don't like it very well to be un-used for some period, draining quite a bit.

If I were you, I'd buy original Epson batteries.

RML, thanks for your reply. There are good non OEM batteries out there, I purchased 1300 mAH from a distributor on ebay and they worked fine, discharge is fine. They are just reaching the end of their lifecycle now -- I've got one Epson battery and three non-OEM and I've made 14,000 exposures in 8 months). Epson does not make their own batteries, they most likely get from a manufacturer and put their name on it. These cells can be Japanese or Chinese cells (I am thinking Japanese). I was just wondering if anyone has purchased non OEM cells that they have been happy with.

IMHO charging $50 or more dollars for such a basic, single, small battery (as many other manufacturers do) which probably costs very little to produce just smells of huge profit margin to me. But that may just be me.

No doubt you're right about the huge mark-up on those batteries. It's probably something like the huge mark-up on printer ink cartridges.

Anyway, I think Epson has tested a ton of batteries from different suppliers and choosen the supplier that delivered the best batteries.

OK, ordered 2 1500 maH batteries from this VENDOR for $12.22 shipped. They say the cell is made in Japan. At that price it is worth a try, I'll let you all know how it goes.

Regards, Charlie

I ordered a couple from power101 as well.
Odd, they charge CA sales tax on shipping, they shouldn't be doing that. The state only collects taxes on goods, not delivery, so these guys pocket the sales tax. That's probably why they have such an odd arrangement as well, charging $0.01 for the item and $8 shipping. (Meaning they only have to collect sales tax on $.01, but charge it for $8.01.)
Doesn't bode well...

By the way, the Epson batteries state 3.7V, the Fujifilm and Fuji replacements found here and there say 3.6V. But I suspect they're all the same voltage anyway.
