analogue banding

Hi everyone,
just got some rolls back from my new/old M3 and overall was very impressed with the old school Elamar 50 with colour. I did, however, notice that I'm getting quite a bit of horizontal fogging. I had this once with my old M3 but it wasn't as consistant as this. Whats more, this shutter looks in far better condition than my old one, although I do see some very faint stretch marks on this one.
Has anyone come across this before? Is this a matter easily fixed?

Tell us some more, please. Example pics? Does it happen at all speeds or only at top speeds?
I had something like this with my IIf, described here earlier. Cause was dirt, lubrication remains on the edges of the shutter curtain. Resulting in a slightly smaller slit between the two curtains, resulting in something like 50 pairs (IIRC) of bands of about a stop or two underexposure. Only at top speeds ofcourse.

Here's a sample.
Band is blue and stops dead on edge of each frame.
Any ideas? Setting was either a 500th or 1000th at f5.6. Seems to me, looking over all my shots, this is happening mainly when I've been walking around without taking any photos, with the lens set to f4 or below.

Edit: seems to be creeping over between frames now that I'm looking hard at the negs.

is this on every frame? over more than one roll of film? Definitely light leaking/fogging. You may want to investigate those "stretch marks"

Not every frame, but it seems that it happens worst when the cap has been off for few mins and set wide, say at f2.8 or 4.
I've taken it in to be looked at. Shame, I'm having some real bad luck with cameras of late! Think I'll stick with it though, even if I need to replace the shutter. M3's are just beautiful to use, especially since I'm a 50mm guy.

Have a look at the edges around the shutter. Looks like some light leak there. May be the edge of the shutter, leaking while exposed without lens cap.
Is it the top or bottom of the frame? Check with a flashlight and figure out where the light leaks. This is definetely fixable. The second, lighter blue mark: Is the shutter light tight?

Looks like a hole in the shutter. Flip the back up and examine a bright light thru both shutter curtains.

This does not appear like a light shield leak.

I'm having a tech look at it now but my suspicion is that it's something rather simple. Definatly no pin holes as the shutter looks sweet other than some very minor looking stretch marks, I think, which could just indicate the shutter needs to be retensioned or something.
Here's one from a roll that did come out perfectly. Got to love the old lenses!
