I just read the excellent pieces on small rangefinders and continued on the s.Gandy 21mm piece..
I noticed, however that the pictures did not look like my former 21\4

I made a Leica screw mount adapter for it and used it succesfully on my IIIg: as long as the lens was mounted after the adapter
Many years ago I gave it away to a Nikon collecting friend, so no pictures available, but Bjørn Rørslett who received it, might have published some snaps. on his naturfotograf site.

That would be because your lens was for Nikon F-mount. The cutoff on the rear element is required so the lens clears the mirror. The cutoff isn't needed on the S-mount version because there is no mirror to for the lens to clear between the lens mount and the shutter.
