Just because it has a definition doesn't make it a word. 😉 Anyway I prefer the 'producer + consumer' alternate definition, even though that's not at all in use, and still makes an awful-sounding letter mush!

In Australia, the initial price of the d700 was $3999aud. When you consider you can now get it for 2k less, it's a pretty big clearance sale. Yes, we get ripped off in Australia.

You need to pull out your beta RF data. 8000 images is about 2-3 outings for an SLR user.

Wow. 50% drop. Thats insane. Must be a VAT thing or something. D700 is awesome. I have a brand new D3S which I am thinking of trading for a D700 and pocketing the diff.

I have to vote for the D700.

I've only had it about a month but it amazes me every day with the quality of photos it gives. I haven't shot much at really high ISO but at 6400 it is phenomenal. I'm shooting every day and trying new things and it just responds so well, I am happy to have a FF DSLR this good.

Wile the D700 is the bets overall camera, the 5D mark II has outsold it by far due to it's HD video ability. So many people in the entertainment industry ask me why I use Nikon...kind of like "why are you driving a Volvo?"

I say, because it's a better camera, and the Canon is a better video camera. I'm a photographer, so I buy a real man's camera LOL

Well they've got to re-invent the wheel or no one would buy it. Yes previsualise confuses the hell out of people. I much prefer the old and well used "see in your minds eye" cos everyone knows what it means. At least I thiink they do.

Of course–marketing is marketing. I just hate that prosumer word. Ugh. Makes my skin crawl.

As for previsualize... well, 'visualize' always seems to fit right to me.
 
Hope I don't start a war here. But the F6 is the overall best film camera out there. I will take it over an Mx any day. And the size is not that much bigger than an M as long as you stick to short primes.

RF cameras are nice but with the availability of just an M8 or M9 or even an RD as the only digital option, I gave up on RF cameras and moved 100% to the SLR/DSLR world.


Not to mention metering and capabilities of an SLR/DSLR outweigh the minor benefits of an RF camera.

I still have the X100 on preorder 🙂

I am a big Volvo fan though...

JT, the F6 fails on two fronts for me. First I require a waist level finder. Well, one at right angles anyway. The RA viewer is OK, but the interal WL finder of the F5 surpasses it and is less expensive. Second, I require a real 'Mirror Lock Up' capability, as I use my SLR for astrophotography on occasion. The mirror pre-release of the F6 does not cut it, as my Meade 'tuning' fork is susceptible to the slightest vibration. Having the mirror out of the way completely is the only solution I have come up with, so my best astrophotos are with my F5 and my OM1n before it.

I use my RF camera differently, and its strengths are unique to that type of camera. You can use more than one camera ya know, and they all have their strengths. There are occasions I'd love to have an F6, but at its current price ... I think I will wait until it's cheaper.

I really like my D700 and my only regret is that It can't do what the Canon does and readily accept a diverse range of other manufacturers lenses with an adapter ... I nearly bought the Canon because of this but the praise for the Nikon's low light performance was so vocal at the time it was hard to go against the flow.

I realise there are other unRF choices out there but if you're looking for a full frame DSLR for a couple of grand there really only seems to be two in the offering when you get down to it. I aplogise to any Sony fans but the A850/900 doesn't seem to be that pouplar around here and as highly as the new K-5 Penatx's praises have been sung, it's not full frame.

So which one then ... Canon or Nikon and why?

NIKON, I've had my D700 for two years now and it's been the best camera I've had. Set it up and just shoot.
As far as lenses go Keith, you can use loads of older ones with the D700.
My main primes are 35 and 50 Summicrons and a 90 Elmarit and my 'take everywhere' Nikkor 24-70 2.8
As far as finding a cheap one goes, good luck to all. They are still probably the best choice for FF if you don't require video. If I could find a cheap new one, I'd buy another to store away for a rainy day when they have stopped making them.
