So my son just finished 8th grade and did really well in his photography class (he was mostly using my old Canon S95) and was interested in shooting more manually and with homemade and offbeat lenses. Since my car had just died and I'm really strapped, I went on ebay and found a "like new" E-P1 with kit lens setup for $80. Since I am still shooting my original E-P1, I let him play with it for an hour or so to see if he though he could get on with such an outdated dinosaur and other than commenting that the little screen on the back was nothing to "brag about," said he really like how it could be used manually so I ordered it. So while there is another current "what's the best" m43 camera, we're ordering something that certainly *isn't*, but for $80 complete cost, WOW! The E-P1 is still one really nice camera. Also, I looked at my son, reminded him that all my framed photos that have been in local galleries were taking with the camera, that I wasn't going to listen to him whining that he needs something better so he could take good photos!

Any leads on current decent Chinese TV lenses that are fast and that he'd like? I remember I bought one for my girlfriend years ago for like $30... (he's 14 and wants to play around with shallow DoF -- I'm not loaning him my Oly 45!)

The E-P1 is a great camera that produces beautiful images. I have and use regularly the white edition. Quite a stunner, actually.

I told a friend about the deal I got and he said he couldn't find anything that cheap, so I guess my son lucked out. For $80, it was really just a "gimme" gift! :)

The thing about all the E-Px bodies is that they were designed to be "flagship" bodies and they still feel that way... even if they are outdated in many ways.

Anyway, I still love shooting mine and don't think I'll upgrade anytime soon... would be more likely to buy another expensive lens... or new guitar! :)

Whoa!!! Camera came today and it is truly "like new" in box. And big surprise! There was a VF-1 in the box too! Yay! I always wanted one for my 17/2.8 so I took it for me (yeah, I know!).

Gave my son my Oly 40-150 to go with the kit zoom, my set of Pentax 110 lenses and my pristine Jupiter 8 50/2 to get him started!

:)
