Warning: rant follows.

I returned today from a week-long vacation back East, bringing a precious few rolls of 120 & 135 with me. Upon visiting my local lab (AIM Pasadena), I find that their last day of regular service was last Friday. As of this week, aside from pick-ups only, they are no more.

Needless to say, I am sorely disappointed. Both by the fact that AIM was insanely convenient (I could walk there if I wished) and the off-hand explanation that one of the workers gave me: "We were losing money; I guess fewer people are shooting film these days." Well, that's a fine how-do-you-do.

I don't know if that's true, of course, but it doesn't matter to me anyway. I don't wish a business to die in a losing market just to satisfy my whims, but I guess I'd gotten spoiled by same-day counter service and an extremely clean process.

Oh, well. I suppose it was time for me to start devving my own B&W negs, anyway. now, does anyone have some advice on a good lab for my E-6? AFAIK, the Pasadena area has the Darkroom Workshop, which I think only does B&W, and a Samy's location, which of course sends everything out anyway. AIM was originally associated with A&I in the past, but the nearest A&I isn't really ocnvenient for counter service. However, their quality is excellent. Does anyone know if A&I can handle process only + sleeved uncut negs by mail? I have no need for prints.

Thanks for letting me bend your ears for a moment.

Cheers,
--joe.
