Yes so it says, im looking for a 50mm lens to replace my old 50 elmar which I find too fumbly to use out on the streets, especially the aperture setting nub.

So what I am looking for is something in a rigid mount, no more collapsible what nots, and no more f3.5

Also the biggest and most important thing, the lens must focus to .7 meters, I have been in too many situations where 1 meter just doesnt cut it and so that is very important.

And then of course there is the money thing. I am saving up for a summilux but am finding myself in need now rather then 3 years down the road so cheap is good.

I have looked at the canon 50mm 1.8 and the nikon's but I dont know much about them and my research hasn't shown if these lenses focus down to that necessary 0.7 meter.

The russian lenses.....eh.............not to interested in that road, I dont want to go sampling lenses to find one that will work.

Maybe there is something else out there someone can cue me into? I saw the voigtlander 50 2.5 but read a lot of stuff about the lens just not being up to par with the rest of the voigtlander stuff so....yeah

thanks!

What camera is this for?

A Type 2 Rigid Summicron (Wetzlar, Black) will focus to 0.7m on all of the M series except the M3. The M3 can be modified to focus closer with it. It is the least expensive of the M-Mount 50mm lenses.

The Thread Mount lenses are all limited to 0.9m or so with RF coupling. The M-Mount has a cut-out in the bayonet mount of the lens to allow the RF mechanism to follow the cam farther.

its for a bessa r2a

and I guess .7 m and cheap isnt going to go hand in hand if I have to go m mount....hm........

I seems to me you are asking for paralax problems. There are reasons why RF lenses don't focus as close as SLR lenses do. One meter is approx. 38 inches, and you can't get much closer than that with RF lenses. Or maybe I should say viewfinders!

Rafael's question is a good one.
If you can swing it, consider a used Zeiss Planar. Darned fine lens, should come in less expensive than a comparable Leica.

been there, done that, never had problems before with focusing down to .7

try setting your 50mm lens to 1 meter then compose a nice head shot then do it at .7 moving in and out until you get focus at minimum focus distance, huge difference and for me totaly nessesary.

ps. my budget it about 100 dollars, 200 I might be able to swing in a couple months

That close you will distort the subject’s features you need to be at least 2.5m away to take a reasonable portrait shot, that requires a 90mm’ish lens if you just want to isolate the head

You cannot beat the Canon 50mm/1.8 for overall quality at such a cost. This lens is very well made, and I have not read anywhere about "bad apples" for the 50/1.8. Of course, a J-3 is faster and costs not more but may require reshimming to be done on it. The J-8 is also a great inexpensive lens for 50/2.0 lenses and rarely does it need adjusting. Maybe a Summicron-C 40mm/2 wouldn't be a bad choice either.

Just take your pick ...

The Hexanon 50/2 is a real steal at $400. This is a fantastic lens- my latest roll through it made me really stand up and take notice. I've been shooting the Hexanon on my M5, and this last roll had a sequence of my screen door shot up close- neg looks super sharp right into the corners.

there is a hexanon lens here in china used in very good condition, very clean for 310 dollars, maybe this is a good choice. Would you suggest one of those or try to save for the zeiss planar? The zeiss lens is about 100 and a little bit more then the hexanon.

I don't know the Planar, but I am most happy with my 50/2.0 M-Hexanon - also compared to a 50 Summicron-R.
And $310 sounds very reasonable!

Best regards,
