Why do you assume I do not like Scala? I simply forwarded a way for someone to make slides from bw negative film. Which would be pretty useful considering Agfa's demise and the coming scarcity of Scala.

Heh. I wasn't meaning that in any offensive way. It is useful. What I meant was that some people would still rather use Scala whether there are other methods of acheiving the same end result or not. Doesn't make your information any less useful...it's just that some people won't want to do that until they absolutely have to.

And as an aside, B&H still has rolls of fresh Scala. I pondered getting one to try it out, but I can't justify the $17 (with the processing mailer) investment right now. :/

No need for an apology. The information is appreciated. I have a roll of Scala left that I'll probably never shoot because the last Scala lab in Canada closed last summer. (If anyone wants it, I'll send it along for the cost of postage).


I think my tongue in cheek was not taken in the vein in which it was meant.
Personally, I'd be just as happy if there was a place film could be mourned by those who feel that's a necessary pursuit ... then I wouldn't get sucked into reading it in other threads. I'd much rather discuss what we can do while film is still with us ... that's a lot more fun.

Sometimes irony does not convey well in these posts. I don't think Joe realized that I was doing one of those (slap your forehead and roll your eyes) "Oh noes!"

Anyway, no harm done. Just wish folks here would realize that oftentimes here I am not being serious but trying (apparently not too successfully) to be ironic.

I never had a chance to use Scala and wish I had because I always shoot color transparencies and would like to do the same with B&W. Since I have a scanner now it seems less "necessary" - but all the same - sad to see a whole format disappear.

i don't think irony translates well on the net.

i find that i can get myself in trouble at times through email, not enough info passes to the recepient and while i think i'm being funny they think i'm being a jerk or just plain mean.

I never had a chance to use Scala

I bought two rolls as part of a project on another board. I used one and was blown away by the results. When it came around to thinking I'd use the second roll, I checked to see if processing was still the same price and found it wasn't even available, unless I wanted to get a mailed sent from a U.S. lab, pay postage two ways, pay processing and wait a month ... it was gonna be costly and just take too long.
So, roll #2 is sitting.
Many years ago I tried the reversal process for Panatomic-X. E6 was easier and less messy and I haven't tried reversal processing again.
I think Maco makes some good kits for their films but it just seems too fiddly.
