Another proud owner of a Mamiya 6 Automatic 2

Hello everyone !

Since a long time I wanted a telemetric folder to revive feelings I had with my Polaroid 180 Pro, dead a few years ago after a bad fall. I looked for infos on Internet about the different medium format telemetric folders, and I discovered the RangeFinderForum, where I posted more in the TLR section (I'm a Rolleiflex fan).

From all the renowned RF folders, I was interested by the Zeiss Super Ikonta III and the Mamiya 6 which share similar external design, coupled RF and overall good quality.
I recently bought a Mamiya 6 Automatic 2 that needed service. I just received it from the repairman, it's now like new 😎

As I read nearly everything I googled about this camera, I've learned my lesson about it's full name (which is not written on the camera itself) 😉

I have one of these also....

I have one of these also....

However, mine was dropped on it's wind knob by the PO which damaged the gear train for the count/stop mechanism. It's still a great camera however. The count stop stuff was taken out and I use the ruby window, which works just fine for me. The shutter cocking works because that system is nowhere near the count/stop gear train.

The good news is:
1) It's a wonderful camera and the focus mechanism/rangefinder system is well built, sturdy and reliable.
2) The film plane focusing is superb
3) The Zuiko 75mm lens is excellent
4) I'm not likely to sell it, because without the count/stop system working, It's truly of lesser value.

I've previously owned two of these in excellent condition, but whenever the budget got tight, I sold them because of their quite high value. This one will probably stay put.

The gears did get trashed enough that it would have taken a donor camera to come up with a replacement set of gears.

Don't drop it on the wind knob. Wonderful find. Who serviced it for you. I did have Certo6 put a new bellows in one of mine and it was nicely done.

I do have to apologize for one thing, however. I mistakenly called mine Automats for some time. Once I found out the name was, in fact, Automatic, I did not notice any improvement in the images shot. How odd that?

My repairman is the former owner of Photo Suffren, one of the most important Rollei and Leica retailer and repairman in Paris since 1972 and recently retired. Now he repairs mostly Rollei cameras at home because he likes it and because not a lot of people know the Rollei cameras as well as he does, so he still has got a lot of cameras to service and it takes two month to wait, but the wait is worth it.

well i realise your just being sarcastic (doesnt suit you btw 😛) but in actual fact it is entirely possible to notice an improvement in the images !!! 😉

the Mamiya-6 Automatic 2 doesn't use a zuiko lens, it in fact uses a Mamiya Sekor lens which is improved over the earlier Zuiko's used in Mamiya-six

I completely forgot about the Mamiya Sekor lens on the last models, which make you quite correct of course. My Mamiya Sixes have all been the Zuiko lens. I do know from using many Mamiya Sekor lenses on other camera's that they are exceptional.

So, yes, I probably would have noticed the difference, but I could not resist the urge to be becoming in my sarcasm:angel:.

Hello it's been a long time !

I'm in the process of making my new photo website, and I my first new series about the Vyšehrad cemetery in Prague is taken with this Mamiya 6 during last November.

Another series about Prague is on its way.

Nice photos. I like the tonality. What film were you using? I was particularly intrigued by the middle photo on the bottom. Seems odd for a cemetery. Do you know the story of it?

I used Tri-X 400 developped in HC-110.

The Vyšehrad cemetery is the most famous of Prague, there is a lot of art graves, mostly Art-Nouveau, with original statues, mosaics and architecture, great typography too for the engravings, it's a must see in Prague.
Music composer Dvořák lies here among other celebrities.
But I don't know anything about that particular statue.
