another strange question...

not so foolish i think...

what does an avatar mean to someone?
some folks uses images they have taken...
some use an image of themselves...
clearly there is a difference in philosophy when choosing an avatar...
i use an image of my grandfather, a man that i loved and miss to this day...it helps me remember and honour him on a daily basis...
some folks, such as yourself, don't use an avatar...why?

lots of questions about a simple thing...

Your reason for using the Avatar you do is an excellent one and I respect that.
And as for why I don't use an Avatar?
There are a few reasons.
First and foremost, I have serious issues with my looks and don't like being photographed by me or anyone else, so I likely wouldn't use my picture.
Second, I've just not found any other image that I like enough to use.
Third, the whole idea of somehow personalizing my posts with a picture isn't important to me, so I've really not spent any time thinking about it.
If I do ever change my mind, I'll come up with something and post it.

Hmmm... well... my avatar is the graphic representation of the IFGA formula used to calculate actual size from image size, knowing focal length, and object distance.

The image size (I)
is to the image focal distance (F)
as the object size (G)
is to the object focal distance (A)

The avatar was actually the U.S. Navy's rating badge for Photographer's Mate (PH). It's been changed a number of times over the years, and the PH rating is no more, but that's what it looked like when I wore a PH crow a million years ago (well nearly 40 years now anyway.) There are a LOT of former Navy photographers around.

On a purely esoteric level, I'm not sure what that says about me. 😀

First, the hands: my hands for sure, probably selftimer . Digital will be helpful, at least less expensive try untill hit!
Second, avatar: I am in my one with my father's Rolleiflex (Actually my Rolleiflex) which is the "simbol" of my photographic heritage and is why I decided for it in this photo forum.
Robert
P.S. I have a different one in other forum but always related some how to my self!
