Ansel Adams in NYT

After reading the article, I have to wonder what it must have been like there back in the 40s before rampant commercialization and millions of vehicle visits a year. Yeah, it sounds elitist, keeping the hoi polloi out; but still, wouldn't it be neat to see the park in a more pristine condition?
 
I guess I'm a city boy. Here are two photo taken by my Father-in-Law in 1950 at Yosemite before crowds, smog, and hot dog stands.
