Sad news today. Here's a link to meeting and photographing Anthony Bourdain - very nice guy.

I'm not at home and can't post the photos in this thread - ergo the link.

Sad news to hear this evening. He always looked like he was having such a great time, but you never know what’s inside I suppose. Such a shame.

Nice memory and image.... it is sad news about a guy who I always felt like I knew but never met, kind of guy you would want to have a beer with....

I am so bummed about this. I went to Addis Ababa a couple of years ago and went out with a friend who lives there, he took Bourdain out when he was visiting Ethiopia and told me some really cool stories about him. I like watching his shows on you tube and I can relate to a lot of the places that he has visited. His episode on Myanmar is a personal favorite. I will miss him.

There seems to be quite an uptick in suicides and other sorts of violence these days. I think it's the chaotic world situation, and our nut job president only makes things worse. Just reading the news these days has me all riled up and angry. Some of the things going on are really shocking, and I suspect a lot of people are just numbed to it until at some point it all breaks through. There's a feeling of helplessness and loss of control over our lives which leads to apathy. That's not a good combination. We're all a little shell shocked these days.

My wife works at a large accounting firm here in Minneapolis. She now is working only three days a week. Full time she worked 3000 plus hours each year. Many work even more. The folks who are equity partners have to retire at 62. The reason for that is many people of that group would never retire. Then, if that happened, the younger people wouldn’t stick around.
For some, their entire life is work. Well, I’ll be generous and say maybe 99% work the other 1% is with their significsnt other.
This gent who took his own life, I read he traveled 250 plus days each year. Now, the world will still spin on its axis just as it did while he was still living.
It’s too bad. Now life is over for him. Finality of the act. Can’t take it back. No rewind button.
Here is what I wrote on Facebook on a photographer friends page who provided a notice of his death:
Why did he have to travel as much as he did? Some folks just need the adventure and notoriety. They fear they will have a sense of tremendous loss if it goes away. Adrenaline kick while doing it.
Nothing is forever.
And I’ll add, maybe the only thing that’s forever is nothing.

I never watched him, but I hate suicide. I've lost a few friends to suicide and it still leaves a hole. RIP Anthony.
