I would assume we will see a new lens or two soon... That would require a firmware update - Then we will see if they add any of the new M9 goodies...

How about a pixel mapping function like on the RD-1 upgrade(RD-1s)?

What's that feature good for. Isn't it used to "eliminate" dead pixels? I don't have problems with dead pixels on my M8.
If you keep the M8 long enough, some misbehaving pixels could pop up. I've had that happen with an old DSLR. But after 10+ years, it's understandable.

There is pixel-mapping software that will do the job in postprocessing.

It will happen over time. Cosmic radiation is one of the main culprits.

I don't know if this is possible at all, but something that is rather annoying is that one cannot see shutterspeed when the camera is in manual-mode, I really need to see that, because the difference in handholdability between 1/8 and 1/4 is significant. In very lowlight situations I have to check the top of my camera all the time. Does anyone have a clue if that would be possible with a firmwareupdate?
Was my question a nonsensical one?

Or a very good one?

Had the problem yesterday. I was out at night with the M8 and used it in manual mode. How do you know what time you dialed in when you are standing in a dark corner and see nothing?
Yes, information about the time in the viewfinder would be great. No idea if this was possible with a firmware update.

I'm going to have that problem tonight, but I'll work my way around it...

It is actually a good idea and would be helpful. Does the M9 have this if not they would have tu upgrade both. Not that likely.
On similar lines one could use the auto iso in manual mode but then it should at least show you the iso it has chosen.

I'm surprised nobody mentioned 12bit-DNG file support (or 14 bit, whatever the sensor outputs). I've been testing an M8 and the lack of "bit range" unfortunately shows its ugly face more often than I'd expect, to the point where in tricky situations my R-D1 gives better tonality (I'm seeing this in portraits). I expect this pointless limitation to be entirely based in firmware.
My 2 cents, then: allow for full range DNG output, without the 8-bit compression.

Are there non-Leica-lenses in the M9 database? It would only make sense, if you could also choose third-party-lenses.
Yep.
And have the camera remember lenses which I have, so then when a frameline is selected, I just get a choice of two or three lenses that match that frameline. Just the 28 mm would be having more options.
And yes, why not add the competition lenses as well. Marketing might be scared. :bang:
But look, we are the customers.

I understood the M8 and M8-2 are now discontinued from production.[--] My second point is that unlike Canon, Nikon, Olympus, Sony and others, they have a relatively small number of products: M8, M8.2 and M9 -- and really just two, if you lump together the M8 and M8.2.
