So I've got the 40 1.4 but I'm also looking for something wider, 20-28 I guess... but I don't see anything that's that fast from the Bessa crew. Didn't know if you guys could educate me to something else or let me know if I've missed something.

Thanks!

Isn't that screw on only? I have an R2A, is there an adapter...
Get a well-made adapter, as precision thickness is important for correct infinity focus. Avoid the cheap ones. Any that you get from Cameraquest or Popflash will be fine.

The 28mm f/1.9 Ultron has been discontinued, and speculation suggests a bayonet-mount replacement, as this otherwise would leave a 28mm-sized hole in the Voigtlander lens lineup.

Of course none do.

Its is a screw lens but the adapter is purely mechanical - it doesn't lose any stops. There's nothing much wider that's faster than f/2.8. Zeiss & Leica make f/2.8 lenses at 25 & 21 but that's it. The Ultron is getting very positive reviews even from Leicaphiles here. Just been discontinued, I would assume to be replaced by an M-mount version but don't expect that to be along for a while.

Sorry, still need some advice as I'm now in a dilema as to what to buy.

There's the 28 1.9 which looks amazing but is also HUGE. The other lens I was thinking of was the 28 3.5 which looks to be a nice small size with decrent f/stop.

Any recommendations? Thanks!

The 28 Ultron is a little larger than the very expensive Leica 28 f/2 Summicron, and the new Leica 28 f/2.8 Elmarit ASPH is smaller yet (the previous non-Asph Elmarit - another choice - is the same size as the Summicron). And the Voigtlander Skopar 28 f/3.5 is even smaller, very affordable, and excellent optically and mechanically, a little gem, but a bit on the slow side. Discontinued, but you can find them available.

I am not familiar with the older CANON RF 28mm lenses, but that's probably another option.

"Fast" was a priority for me, and size also was a priority, so it really boiled down to only one possible unaffordable choice for me: the 28 Summicron Asph, the best combination of fast and small with excellent optics. Stalemate, until I found a new one, old stock at old price, from a dealer clearing his dusty shelves. It was still expensive, but I couldn't resist. 🙂

Both are very good. I have been shooting with the CV 28/3.5 a lot on my R4 recently and it is a wonderful lens. The CV 28/1.9 though is a special lens. Images from it are excellent from corner to corner with a good balance to sharpness and contrast. I think the Skopar is probably a bit more contrasty than the Ultron. Both are good choices for the $$$$. The ZM 21, 25 and 28mm lenses also look excellent for a bit more $$, and of course the Leicas are very good and very $$$$$$$.
