Any film similar to the old Agfa emulsions?

"When it comes to old emulsions, Efke/Adox could also be a hint. Rich silver emulsion, going well in Rodinal."

Great film, but scratches easily when whet. So handle with care and use a hardener in the fixer.

Cheers,

Wim

Yes, thank you! I had a few rolls of copex 25 (only info about it), they were given to me. Also, the rolls were load from a bulk so the correct name of the film I do not know. Possibly it's the copex rapid or the COPEX HDP. After developing the film does not have the mark and frame numbers. I liked the results so I wanted to get more.
And I well served of APX, have a bulk of apx 100!

PS: here my results of the copex

Looking at your pictures, ISO 25 with Rodinal 1+100, I guess that you have the Agfa Copex Rapid.
Agfa Copex HDP has much less speed, and I doubt you could have get such results with it.

Best deal for Copex Rapid is Spur Modular UR developer. Compared to Rodinal you will get much higher speed (ISO 50), much finer grain, much more resolution and much better highlight detail. No blown out highlights as with Rodinal.

Cheers, Jan.

I've just looked at the materials I have - I have some samples of Agfa Copex Rapid from 1997 and some others from 2008. I also have some Copex HDP from 2008 and some Aviphot Pan 20, 40 and some Avitone PD1p-OS. Some of them haven't been tested. Something else to work through.

Would sticky threads on the Rollei and Efke films be useful?

Goodbye Efke!

Goodbye Efke!

Well, I've just been reviewing this thread because after earlier rejecting Fomapan due to emulsion quality issues and turning to Efke, I've come to the conclusion that my needs are best met by sticking with the big three - Ilford, Kodak and Fuji.
I've had serious problems with both the European films due to imperfections embedded in the emulsion leaving black spots on the negative and hence "snow" on the prints. It's patchy even within the one film roll, but it's so prevalent that it's not worth the hassles involved in spotting the prints or even cloning the spots out in PSE.
It's a shame - I thought the tonality of the Efke film was something special but I can't hack the other problem. The reports of these 'specks' has been ongoing for a few years now and I thought by now they must have overcome the problems but it seems that's not so.

To the OP: The Rollei Pan25 is becoming my replacement for APX25. I'm now running it in the Rollei RHS developer and getting a similar look to what I got with APX25 in HC-110 or ID-11. Beautiful stuff.

This is the Pan25 in Rodinal 1:50, I find the RHS gets me even closer to the APX25 look I remember.

@Leigh

Try to use an alkaline fixer in place of the normal acidic one, this could solve the problem.

Thanks for the suggestion. I don't think it's easy to obtain here but I'll investigate. I have previously been in touch with Peter Hogan in the UK about using some of his chemicals so now I might have to revisit that.
I'll put the Efke film back in the fridge until I can sort out supply to try your idea.

What film size Efke are you having trouble with? Both 35 & 120 came out very nice for me though Foma200 in 35mm is giving me a hard time since I changed scanner...

Foma100 is perfect though...It has a beautiful glow to skin tones...

I've tried Efke KB100 in both 120 and 35mm - both showed the speck problem. I have some Kb50 and 25 but I'm reluctant to try them now as I've lost confidence that the results will be satisfactory. It puzzles me that others have reported variously - some have had problems, some not - but I don't have the problem with main brand films!

I threw out the Fomapan so don't have to worry about that any more!
