beyond all expectations my wife bought me a fantastic christmas present, she doesn't anything about photography, let alone brand names... nor does she care to know ... anyway she once overheard me talking about a camera I would really like to have, this was months ago, and even I had forgotten about it, but last night out it came, nicely wrapped and originally boxed Rolleiflex 2.8f Xenotar, all papers, original proof of purchase absolute mint condition, dark brown leather case, set of B&W filters, metal sun shade 12 months garantee, I was speechless, not omly about the camera which actually has been on top of my wish list for a long time, but the fact that my wife remembered... even the Xenotar part, how easy would it of been to get the planar version, but I wanted the xenotar and my wife remembered that ... is this true love or what ?

So today loaded it up with 120 tri-x, developed in HC110 H solution, and a full range of beautifull pictures came out, the lightmeter is spot on, the negatives are works of art, I printed a couple in 13 x 18 cm and 2 in 20 x 30 cm, masterpieces. Anyway I plan to do lith printing with the 6x6'es.

so, anybody else recieved something out of the ordinary ?

I know it has nothing to do with rangefinders .. but normally I use an M6 so I thought I might squeeze this in 🙂

My dad got me the spanner wrenches, needle files, and the long-handled Wiha screwdrivers from Micro-tools.com that I needed to fix his SLR🙂. Now that it's done he doesn't have to borrow anything of mine to shoot mushrooms on his treks through the forests.

I received a beautifull Praktica MTL 50 in very good condition with 1.8/50 from a friend of mine who left recently the country. I was looking for this camera (or other new style Praktica with TTL metering) since the Praktica Super TL was discontinued many years ago, and became very hard to find in my country. I love the metal shutter this one has, as well as some other features like the shutter cocked signal in the VF, something many cameras should have.

An ebay gift certificate. That is like giving crack to a drug addict. 🙂

hehehe...tell me about it! my business partners got me one! definitely feeding an additiction. they're enablers, i tell ya! 😀

the wife bought me a nice GPS receiver. i was thrilled. i hadn't even ever asked for one. i love going geo-caching with my friend (he has a gps receiver), but we haven't been able to go as often recently. she noted this, and thought it would be cool for me to be able to head out by myself, with other friends, or with her. how thoughtful! i love it!! best kind of gift too. something you would have never expected!

This book Magnum is great read, the people who worked with the greats like Capa, Eve Arnold, Cartier-Bresson, Salgatdo and many more talk about what working for Magnum was all about. So good it's hard to stop reading.

A beautiful Rollei 35 S (black paint version, looks as if it has never been used, controls are smooth as silk).

I have boxes and boxes of photos, including a box from our honeymoon in Paris and London nearly a decade ago. I have never been able to get them organized or cull through them. My wife had been sneaking and going through them. Christmas morning I was presented with a nice album with many of the photos from our trip, plus other small mementos such as our Metro passes and ticket stubs from other places attached to the pages. It was the most special of gifts.

My parents gave me the money I needed to purchase my Kiev IIIA. I am very quickly falling in love with this camera.

Non-photographically, I got the Jackass DVD box set and a stunt kite and a coke freezer mug (put it in the freezer and the liquid inside freezes keeping whatever beverage cold for long periods of time withot the need of ice and the associated dilution factor).

I've recieved a nice lunasix 3 which works like a charm from my parents, and yesterday evening I recieved a message from my friend that he has found an old camera from 1957 and said that I could have it, so now I'm waiting to find out what he has found. Maybe an agfa clack or a leica IIIf or a leica M3 or a crown graphlex? I have absolutelly no idea 😕

Goodyear,
I assume now that you have a shiny new satchel, you won't be needing to make that trip to Istanbul.... If I find the guy's card one of these days, I'll let you know.

Wash your mouth out!

Is it wrong to add a destination to your list because of a bag? 😀

I received a camera backpack that I have been lusting after. Should be able to carry an slr w/zoom, Bessa R with 28 w/vf and 50, and the Fuji GS645 folder. Surprised to say the least, also a package from China, a small hand-made bicycle made of bone. Biking is my other passion. Wonderful details. I should take a pic and share it.

Well - since 'gift to self' has already been allowed in this thread, I received my Zenitar fisheye from Victor in Moscow on Christmas Eve. Ran out to try a few shots (attached to my rangefinder-like *istDS2). One attached - this will be fun, but will require some learning.

Best for the new year!

I recieved from Mom a Carl Zeiss Sonnar Jenna 50/2 lens for my Contax IIIa. Which she bought off me right after I got it off Ebay. Test drove the lens back in the fall, great piece of glass. My borther gave me a Mono pod and I gave him a book on Lanscapes done by Magnum Photographers and Lieca guide to Photography published in 1950.
