Any news on the new Plustek 120 scanner?

Hi Mark, thanks for the answer.

When you say:

do you mean that X and Y measured resolving power is not equal?

Something like (say) 4400x5800 (average = 5100)?

Thanks

All scanners that use a stepper motor show differences in the X and Y resolutions. I only found a one element difference on the test target which is as small of a difference you can measure with these targets.

Yes, absolutely correct, even my drum scanners show differences between X and Y.
I was just asking confirmation: something like, say, 4800x5300 actual resolution across the whole 6x12 frame would be great! ;)

Very excited for this. Have been somewhat unhappy with my epson for a while, switched to a Nikon Coolscan for the 35mm work, but still been using it for MF.

Allright I get the message, I wIll probably have to import one myself... :(

The scanners will be available at approximately the same time in the US and EU. I don't want to give a date right now, because the date that has been floating around isn't a firm ship date. Hopefully we will have a firm date in the next week or so.

Hmm... Here they seem pretty sure that the price is 1500 EUR. I don't know why? I couldn't find any link to a price announcement or any dealer displaying a price for this scanner?!

If that in fact is the right price and you get Silverfast Ai 8 (with targets for scanner calibration, right?!), good holders and the scan quality holds up to the specs, this will be a great scanner.

I would buy it if I hadn't just recently got a Microtek 120tf. Yeah, 700 is less than 1500 EUR, but Plustek 120 looks like much better scanner (better holders, ICE, higher resolution, newer, supported software...).

We will soon be able to discuss actual price points. This is the message I received from the South African agents for Plustek: "Please kindly note we haven’t received the pricing yet for the scanner. We’ll send the quote as soon as received."
I am also looking forward to real world usage reports.
(Please pray with me that I can afford the Plustek. I am an owner of a Epson 4990. I must admit I did not try very hard. but the quality I get form it does not satisfy me. I am just not prepared to invest the time in scanning work that I know will be better on a better scanner.

Regards

Eugene (the other one)

From where I stand the Plustek 120 has to be about the same price as an Epson V750 + a Plustek 7600.

Otherwise it will not compete with either, and people will be happier and fuller of wallet to send out for scans.

Will it work with Vuescan?
Option to buy without the dreaded Silverfast software?

I was told Plustek will send Ed Hamrick a scanner ASAP to have it supported by Vuescan.

I second the request to have the option to purchase the OpticFilm 120 without Silverfast: I don't like and would not use that software.
I have a Vuescan Pro (unlimited) license and if not having the Silverfast bundle could save me some money, that would be welcome.
