Another reason to welcome another scanner is the longevity of film. You can find many threads on this forum and other fori decrying the death of film. If we were all limited to wet printing, how long would film last, especially 120 film.

It isn't gougers, it's buyers. They don't have reasonable alternatives so they are left to compete with other buyers to get those old, unsupported scanners. The lack of new 120 film scanners leaves people to 'fight over the scraps'.
New scanners, like the upcoming Plustek 120 put some health into the hobby and we can forget about the old, obsolete, used and worn-out/burnt-out Nikon LS-9000, LS-8000 and Minolta Multi-Pro.
It's a very healthy thing and speaks well to our hobby that companies are willing to make an investment in new equipment.
Let's see if people who want a Nikon scanner will continue to pay the exorbitant prices. I do not think they will. If you have one and want to sell, now would be the time.
