Any news on the new Plustek 120 scanner?

Besides it's not clear yet whether the scanner will come with Silverfast 8 Ai or SE. Ai as a standalone version costs $500 while SE costs $50. If it comes bundled with SE it's likely you're not paying that much for the software to be included.

That wasn't the intent. I found Silverfast difficult to use and non-intuitive. The same is true of vuescan oto be fair, but vuescan doesn't charge you more to use the product with a more expensive scanner or lock out other scanners.

Having said all that, v8 may be a vast improvement over my previous experience and if it is bundled, of course I will try it again. It may even resolve some of the issues with scanning colour neg with vuescan.

I nearly gave up on SF. At first I found it like trying to put a jigsaw puzzle together without seeing the picture but I'm glad I stuck with it. It's pretty comprehensive. I don't have v.8 yet. I AM trying out v.8 of HDR to partner with the scanning software.

Welcome to the forum!

What communications with Plustek on this did you have? Email?, Sales rep on the phone?

Seems I might have to speed up selling some prints and leftover gear to cover for it!
 
Ok guys here is the scoop... September is the target availability date. About 30 days before availability, you will see the major photo retailers posting pre-order pages.

That is FANTASTIC! I'm a dedicated Silverfast user, and like many others do not like their pricing / upgrade terms, so I've stuck with my bundled SE version since upgrading to an Epson V700 last year.

For those who haven't been back to see v8, it is a huge improvement over previous versions. For starters the dust / scratch removal algorithm has been substantially updated, with much tweakability for getting out even very stubborn specs. They call it "iSRD" now, and it runs a lot faster (seconds instead of minutes) on large 2400dpi+ scans.

About the only real feature I could see myself using with the Ai version is the IT8 color correction, but that alone will probably help me get past some lingering color cast issues I run into from time to time (processing one's own C41 at home can be tricky).

Sample unedited scans for download? Actual resolution figures? Price?
 
I don't know about you folks, but I have recently acquired the entire family and extended family's collection of medium format and 135 film, some dating back 70 or so years ago, and I plan to scan them all. The Plustek OpticFilm 120 is very very tempting, and would probably help me get through this box of several thousands of film negatives and positives faster with better results. I am not sure a flatbed scanner would fit my needs at this point. Any news on price or release date?

With that many to scan you might want to consider sending them out to a service.

Then later rescan the best ones if you need a higher quality file.

No.

Again, it only lists the "nominal" specs, not the measured X/Y resolution.

That is true. I have considered that. However, some require special care and others need cleaning. Also, most scanning services charge nearly a dollar PER exposure ... D; ... I'd have to sell a number of cameras and lenses just to cover the cost of mediocre scans.
