I've always wanted the 135 DC f/2 lens and should have grabbed one last time I had some free cash, but, it's still on my dream list.

Just curious if any of you guys have opinions about this lens?

Phenomenal lens – sharp, great bokeh, wide aperture, good contrast and color rendition.

Here are some images from April 2011 that I took with it, from my newspaper's website.

The 135 DC Nikkor is IMHO the best portrait lens currently available. The ability to defocus backgrounds sets it above any similar lens I own.

with the exception of the Minolta (or Sony) 135 STF.

As I don't own a 'Minolta (or Sony) 135 STF' I have no idea. I do own other 135mm Nikkors, Zuikos and Leicas and I find the 135 DC Nikkor the most useful amongst all these.

Since I originally went the Nikon route instead of Canon, I bought the 135/2 DC.

I must say, it's invaluable for portrait work on the move, and capturing fast moving grand kids.

I'd highly recommend it for that use.

I tend to use my Fujica 100AE with Auto Up close up lens when I want absolute maximum quality for large enlargements. However, the last time I used that rig, one of my grandsons said, "Grandpa, you're wasting my time"......he was deeply into building a Lego's Star Wars space ship at the time, and I was a little too slow for his needs with tripod placement and manual focus.

So, in my experience, the 135/2 DC has been a fantastic tool for in-hand shooting.

I tried both the 105/2 and 135/2 before finally settling on the 105. I should have NEVER sold that 105, it was one of the best lenses I've ever used. The 135 was a little bit finicky, I could never quite get the razor sharp results that I got with the 105 (even using AF micro-adjust).
