besides the main contax forum site that requires a payment membership, do you happen to know of any forums and classified sites that sell and share information about the Contax CZ Aria SLR lens?
(other than FM forums, photo.net )
any?
many thanks

I got mine from camera stores and ebay. The lensemount predates the Aria some 20 years so there is a big supply.
If you want to use the Arias program mode or TV autoexposure you need the MM versions where the smallest f-stop is marked in green. All C/Y mount lenses work on all C/Y mount bodies in AV and manual.

Haagen, why the AE version?
There are a few Distagons on E-Bay at the moment. The local stores are all sold out.
BTW, for a user there are no differences in CZ lenses wether they have been made in Germany or Japan, MM or AE. For a collector the german made ones are more valuable.
Since my funds are limited, I have 25/2.8, 50/1.7, 85/2.8 and 135/2.8. Cheaper, lighter and just as good for my purposes as the faster lenses.

The 25 has a mixed reputation - many prefering the 28.

people swear by the fact that the AE version is just slightly better.
maybe i am being swayed by popular opinion..
is japan still currently making the MM version or are the lens lineup for the C/Y mount totally out of production...??
i am watching the ebay ones..

I think that with the 25, the edge softness gives a certain 3-d effect to it.
None of the lenses are under production. But, www.ffordes.com has a few AE's second hand, and MMs new. If you want, I'll take some slides on each lens for you (25 and 28) and send them off to you. The 28 is the better lens.
Let me know.

Hi Mark,
I have both lenses so could take some slides and post to you - I don't have a scanner, but if you have a loup or a scanner they should be useful. I work for a Bank, but working for Zeiss sounds even better!
I'll do them this Satuday for you - at each aperture, for each lens. My 25 is an AE, the 28 is an MM. I'll also test the Yashica ML 24 - which is a very highly rated lens.
PM me if this is OK.
David.
