Title says it all. Has anybody been able to find a copy of the Trent Parke Minutes to Midnight book?

I, like many others, pre-ordered a copy from Amazon over a year ago, only to see my pre-order cancelled in the last half-year.

Apparently it has been published, but none of the usual channels have it available, and it now shows as Out of Print on the Steidl website.

So, did anybody get lucky? And if so, any leads on possible copies still available or upcoming distribution? I'm going to be really gutted if I end up missing out on this one.

Best,
Jonathon

Yes, I found mine on Amazon.de Marketplace, got it directly from Steidl. It is beyond anything, fantastic.

I got mine from Amazon UK. I avoided early preorder due to cancelation stories like yours, so ordered it about 1.5 months ago. Two weeks ago it arrived, together with the refund of 3 pounds (initial price dropped to 24).
Surely enough price started going steadily up just 3 days later, but that was to expected.

Got it from Amazon.co.uk for £18 a couple of weeks ago (Amazon sold it to me at a discount!).

Pre-ordering months in advance on Amazon is dangerous - it often seems to result in people "falling off" the list or cancellation. When I heard publication was imminent (a few weeks in advance), only then did I put in an order.

Unfortunately for many, the book was so popular that the entire print run sold out in about a week!

"The Christmas Tree Bucket" is still available (for now), and I'd get it as it's hilarious! Here's hoping you have a better Christmas than the one Parke pictures...!

Hi,

Thanks all for the information. It's starting to look like I missed out on this one. I think my mistake was assuming there would be North American distribution and waiting for it to become available on Amazon Canada. Too bad, and a bit disappointing, really.

I refuse to buy at drastic mark-ups from the resale vultures. Does anybody know if there is a second printing expected, or some allocated for North America that have not yet been released?

If any good soul has an extra copy they're willing to part with, do let me know - or if you do hear of any available copies at a reasonable price, please give me a heads up.

Thanks - and happy holidays to all!

Best,
Jonathon

Sorry - I've been informed that there will be no reprints.

Only single editions with no reprints are now the norm for photobooks. Today, photobooks have become collectible/desirable objects in their own right (just like prints), so photographers don't want multiple editions of their books or reprints, as that would damage their reputation - just as being careless about editioning for prints would.

Case in point... Christina de Middel was advised not to reprint her "Afronauts" book, which came out as an edition of 1500 in 2012. Costing £40, it soon sold out, and the price went stratospheric (especially after she became a finalist for the Deutsche Borse photography prize). When available, her book now sells for £1000-1500: http://snipurl.com/28cp8pk. (I bought an early copy from her for £40, which she signed!)

Christina self-published "Afronauts", raising the money herself, and she would definitely make a tidy sum if she reprinted. But she won't, as her reputation would be tarnished.

As for "resale vultures", I don't know about that: it's a case of supply and demand. And the demand's certainly there. On Amazon and Abe Books combined, there appears to be just one copy of "Minutes to Midnight" available! So, no one wants to sell...

If you really want a copy, I'd buy a one even at a a steep mark-up. I suspect that within a few weeks the price will settle somewhere around £200 for the foreseeable future...

I've found a copy through Amazon Canada sold by Bookdepository. I went to bookdepository but they say they don't have it. Steidl says it came out Dec 15 but mine arrived Dec 12, I don't understand anything but at least I have the book 😀

I pre-ordered and paid mine through bol.com and it still says that delivery will be available on jan 15th... so they might have their own batch reserved and available.

Thanks all for the tips. Ended up getting a copy through Amazon US just after Christmas. It arrived yesterday - beautiful book!

I had ordered 7 from various sellers in hopes one would show up. My local bookshop called today said their suppliers have them and I'd see one Wednesday. BAM supposedly has shipped one of the three I had ordered and the 3 ordered from amazn are still pending. Bought one of these just in case:
(4 left as of this posting) $37.16 shipped from US seller.
