One camera and lens combination can not meet all applications unless you are doing only one type of photography all of the time. Try doing macro with with a Yashica Electro or removing a bold with a screwdriver.

Hell no! I'd have to give up too many fine cameras to do that, and for no appreciable gain.

I'm considering welding my Summaron 2.8/35 to my Leica M3. Would that count? Seriously, I do like the 35mm FL, so much so that I really omly use my 50 for very deliberate portraits. The idea of going with a fixed lens is seductive, especially if it's a leaf shutter design. Great flash possibilities. I have a couple of Rolleis. They'd be my desert island choice.

Ya know..I never said only one camera. Just Fixed Lens camera(s). So would it change anyone's mind to be able to shoot any of their Fixed Lens Rangefinders? Just not any of the interchangeable ones? Since most, not all, shoot the same lens..would it really affect you much?
"I" just find that since I shoot AP mode 100% of the time, why bother with elements I don't need and get in "my" way of doing what I'm really there to do..take a picture.
Just a thought
Sides..less lenses/bodies means more space in the bag for film!

3 from 36 on a good day.
Chinasaur, I hear you and also like the simplicity of Aperture priority and the fixed lens but have run into limitations with the iso of the Yashicas. If I could work out a way to shoot my Yashicas up to iso 1600 I'd be very happy. Also flicking the Iso lever or dial is a PITA for exposure compensation. Would have been nice to get a proper exposure compensation dial on those Electros. The fixed lens for the most part is something I work around and happy to ignore it's limitations on a regular basis due my preference for packing light but as they say 'variety' is the spice of life so I'm not gonna go completely fixed lens, or if I did it would be a couple of fixed lens cameras with different focal lengths which kinda defeats the purpose IMO.

Well, I did rig the straps on my Yashica ME and GL so that I can carry them both at the same time, with the ME hanging above the GL. Could always exchange the GL with a GSN to extend the focal range a bit.
I plan on carrying my Zorki with my Contax IIa so I can set up one camera wide, and the other normal or tele.
Next week I plan on going to an air show, and while it will be great to have one SLR with a 28-200 zoom, and another with a 200-400 zoom, I will still pack a rangefinder to get those casual grab shots in the crowd. Although, I did an airshow once with a C330F.

yeah... 90%
I like being knowing what my photo will look like without looking through the camera. Also knowing my dof for every aperture by heart.
But I do keep another 5 cameras and 15 lenses because I like cameras and lenses... but they stay on the shelf 90% of the time.

i used to have the MG-1, but the lack of manual control and its dependent on battery left me cold.. so in the end i sold it and went for the QL17.. But then, i missed the aperture priority.. I still can't get the hang of shutter priority, knowing that my DOF will be determined by the camera and not me.. Yes, i know i can switch to manual and set the aperture from there, but that costs me time, doesn't it? I now only have that camera and the XA.. the XA being my take-everywhere camera and it offers the Av mode.. Coming from SLR cameras (which now i don't own one anymore) with fixed lens always mounted, i don't feel the fixed focal length actually limiting, but i do find that 0.8m min focusing distance somewhat limiting to me.. I also miss being able to focus as close as 0.28m.. so now, yeah, i've gone completely fixed lens.. but a dose of canon P, one 50mm lens and one UWA lens would be great, though..
cheers!
cheers!

I have but one lens for my Bessa R, the 35/2.5 Skopar, and plan to add no more.
I have several FL lenses for my Pentax cameras but use a 35mm lens most of the time.
My Hexar AF, Contax T, and the rest of my pocket 35's all have ~35mm lenses.
I'm beginning to discern a trend here. Apparently *I* am fixed on 35mm lenses...
