I wish I did not pick up the 50/1.8 Nikkor about four months ago when I started thinking DSLR. I was lusting after the 58/1.4. I have been very impressed with every CV lens I have (15 LTM, 25 LTM, 25 SC, 35 SC, 35/1.7 LTM, 40/1.4 M, 75 LTM) and would not think twice about getting one if I "needed" it. The CV RF line is very resistant to flare and sharp. The only think I do not like about the 58 is that it does not take 52mm filters (old Nikkor Prime Lens Standard). I have lots of them and they can be fun from time to time (like the ND-400).
The build of the newer CV lenses is much improved. To me, the 40/1.4 feels as good as the Leica 'Cron 35/2 version IV. You mileage may vary.
I have not yet gotten the D300 I am lusting after so I am not sure the 50/1.8 is what I really like. Problem is I grew up on a Nikkor 85/1.8 so the 58 multiplies out to a better match (read exact) for that. Plus it has the fancy electronics in her so I can do some funky flash stuff (I love flash).
Sorry no hands on with either, but perhaps some helpful background in any event.
I think they are a heck of a bargain. I was expecting a higher price. I hope Pres K comes out with some wider stuff too.
