Anyone know about hallmark institute of photography?

I'm a Hallmark alumnus who has been working in the photo industry since I graduated, but not as a photographer.

The school has changed a lot since I graduated in 1999, but the basic idea is still the same. It is a short program that focuses on photography fundamentals and the business of photography. If your daughter is planning on running a portrait studio it is a good place to go, if she wants to be an artist... not so much.

The problems with the school are the same as any other place, but maybe exaggerated by the lack of on campus student housing. If you daughter is motivated and has a good head on her shoulders, she will do well. But, if she is kind of lost and wants to party... well... she'll be able to do that.

What kind of things are you curious about?

Holy god. It has gotten expensive... $60k!? 😱 It was a bit less than that when I went... Is that tuition, or does it include camera equipment?

It's hard to compare a place like Hallmark and a standard college. When I went to Hallmark it was an all day thing -- 9-5 5 days a week plus outside assignments that used up your free time -- I assume it still is. In regular college a kid might go to one or two classes a day and have a big chunk of the day free. So in two or three years at college one might have the same amount of class time as a place like Hallmark.

Definitely not associated in any way.

Hallmark Institute was started by the guy who owned the Hallmark photo lab... there was some legal dispute with the card company of the name, but it resolved with each keeping the name.

The Hallmark lab is no longer in business...
