One images showing a nice black/nickel Leica II with minimal paint wear. Slightly rusty screws imply poor storage, lens has a serial number I cannot read.
Poor storage conditions might have affected the paint around the woods metal filled engraving on top
There is a clumsy after market 'soft' shutter release that probably unscrews easily. Nice camera, needs a clean as does the lens.
Finally got back to my home computer. So it seems like the consensus is that it's real. My buddy wants me to sell it for him any thoughts on what it's worth? It definitely would need a cla before working again.
Do a search on "black Leica II" on Ebay completed sales. Needing work, it's going to be worth less than those advertised as working, by about $200 less.
I'll go along with the after market shutter guard idea. That's probably where the FSU makers picked up the idea, of it could have been the other way around! (FED's first appeared in the UK in the early 40's or late 30's.)
It is an original Leica II (not converted I) very similar to mine with serial number 79xxx. Not sure about shutter release or lens but definitely original Leica body.
I haven't bought it yet because I don't have enough money! I probably could have given him $100 for it when he showed it to me but he's a buddy and I don't want to get a deal off of him. He's also a poor college kid who just needs money so I wanted to find out it's value/authenticity for him and pass it along to someone else.
