Anyone know how to fix the lens wobble?

Does anyone know how to stop the lens on my GSNs from wobbling at the focus ring?

I stripped the lens down to the shutter, and the scalloped ring there doesn't do it.

The only cure I found in a search was to jam some foam tape in the gap, but that isn't my kind of fix.

Jeremy, is wobbling barrel itself or whole lens assembly (under leatherette it's fastened to body w/ 4 screws) ?

I have a beater GSN and barrel were slightly bent (filter thread confirmed this). After removal of front element and tightening wavy nut, barrel became almost as it should be - straight and no wobbling.

So I'm trying to figure out what's your case...

It's the barrel.
I have two gsns - one was much worse than the other at first. Tightening that wavy nut got it better, but not perfect.

On the other one, tightening the nut just caused the aperture ring to be stiff - no improvement. The lens barrel still wobbles while the focus ring stays still.

They always wobble to a certain degree, some more than others. Shouldn't be a cause for alarm.
