Just bought Maymiya Super 23 kit off *scamBay* and of course the condition of the goods were overstated. I've got a 100/2.8 lens for the Mamiya Super 23/Universal with a bad shutter. I think the shutter might need to be completely replaced.

But hey, the camera "works fine" and is "in great cosmetic condition" except that there is a huge nasty dent on the top of the camera body and this lens is clearly damaged and missing parts.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Steven

Sorry to hear that the 2.8 is in bad shape. This is a very nice lens, BTW. Unfortunately, the early shutter does not have parts available, except from another salvaged parts shutter. The later, black (?) shutter is supposed to be simpler to have repaired. Someone here should have info on a place that can handle repairs. If the glass is OK, it is a worthwhile investment. Check that the dent did not effect the range/viewfinder. If it's just cosmetic, it isn't serious for a user camera.

I use the earlier Graphic back model of this camera, and I like it. I already had several backs, from other Crown and Min Graphics, and it is an easy camera to use. Evidently, the shutter is the weak point. There are several web sites with information, and a google search should produce some results. There is also information on the MF site (Monohan?).

I'd also have a chat with the seller about the representation of the camera. Maybe a portion of the lens repair, larger because of unreported cosmetic damage. Good luck.

Harry and Gordy,
Many thanks. I will follow up on your leads. I believe it's the early model and since there's metal shavings floating around from the leaves I wonder what the prognosis will be. Too bad, the glass looks very good.

Steven,

It probably just needs to be cleaned. Dirty shutters do all kinds of weird things that make you think that the shutter is toast.

The lenses for the Mamiya Universal use Seikosha #0 shutters. Any professional camera repair shop should be able to CLA this shutter for you. I've CLA'd several Seikosha shutters in my Mamiya C330 lenses and it's not difficult at all.

Thanks RJ. That is encouraging news. I'll try to remain optimistic. Flutot's is closed until 4-9-06 but the upside is I live about 30 minutes away.

Cheers!
