Anyone read: Emulsive.org?

Emulsive has a cheerleader ring to it, and keeps my ethusiasm running. Since "returning to film" for my own part back in February, feels like I'm sipping through a firehose. Lots of fun, and a real rush of a tactile experience. There's a seed in all this boosterism that's good, and another part that's... how shall we say, trying to express the joy without sounding hollow. Hard to do. Anyway, I think to its credit, like so much else you read now, it's less and less about film vs. digital and more about coexistence with (as they put it Toy Story) "Big Baby". But if Digital is Big Baby, I'm not sure Film is Woody.

I've never been described as a cheerleader, @roscoetuff but I'll take it.

You said that I'm "trying to express the joy without sounding hollow"...this is in part true.

You see, expressing the joy of film photography is partly why I started the site. I don't try to not sound hollow because (and this isn't bull****), it comes from the heart.

I believe every word I write and I know the contributing authors come from a similar place too.

Having shot my first roll of film in about 7-8 years just today, I can attest to that "rush" you speak of. I had sped through about 30 exposures before I realised that I should calm down a bit and take my time! It was fun though.

EM: Wow. Didn't expect... well, sure glad you're NOT the Spanish Inquisition! Let's just put it down this way, "Film is more fun than... the Spanish Inquisition." Yeah. And reading any of the manuals for a film camera is waaaaay shorter, more legible and oriented toward p-h-o-t-o-g-r-a-p-h-y than their digital cousins which seem to be written for reading under a microscope... and STILL 200 plus pages longer. But I digress...

Whenever it is that I become a real photographer... THEN I'd love to write about my return to something or other... like beginner status. I suspect that's part of the joy in returning to film... recapturing the magic not just of film, of seeing your own negatives come out of the tank... but the thrill of beginnerdom... emphasis on beginner - not "dom".
