Hello all,
I was placing a Giotto's cover on the LCD cover on my M8. After attaching, the entire assembly fell out as a result of its own weight. Has anyone reattached to cover [not the sapphire upgraded one] themselves? What did you use? Tape? Blue locktite? Or do I send it to DAG?

Thanks, in advance for any suggestions.

Hard to believe that the assembly fell out from the weight of the 0.5mm glass cover plate. The glass is flat- not warped to yank on it.

What went wrong?

I think it was probably ready to fall out, anyway. Don Goldberg suggested sending it to New Jersey. I'm using gaffer tape for now.

I did basically the same thing except that I had dust under my Giottos and tried to remove it because it bugged the crap out of me. I ended up pulling the Giottos AND the plastic LCD cover accidentally with it, revealing a rectangular recess and an exposed LCD screen!! I simply separated the Giottos, cleaned the edge along the perimeter of the recess on which the plastic LCD cover sits, and lightly, carefully applied 'rubberized' Loctite super glue using a toothpick along the perimeter edge and re-installed the plastic LCD cover. Glue was dry and more than strong enough to hold the plastic LCD cover.

Sounds straightforward, but truth is it followed about 30 seconds of panic, 10 minutes of swearing, and 2 minutes brainstorming. :bang:

I pulled off my screen protector too and same thing happened. Leica NJ covered it under warranty. This screen protector is just a peice of plastic with adhesive on the edges. That's it. There should be a kit available to mount one yourself ( there are some for Nikon, Canon, etc.

I do not use a screen protector anymore, I just use my M8. If my screen begins to annoy me I might just get the correct plastic and make one myself. I consider screen protectors throw away items anyway. We are talking about cheap plastic here, not front lens elements and rangefinder windows!

I agree, a kit would be a good idea. Then one could replace the screen cover easily, with a fairly cheap replacement, and not worry about screen covers.

Thanks Jaap, your probably right...Meantime, Leitztozeiss, which Loctite?

Gaffer tape for this afternoon...:bang::bang::bang:
