Anyone seen/used a J-3 that looks like this?

Check this out. It's an unusual-looking 1955 KMZ J-3. Wondering if anyone has seen or used one like it before. It looks to me like the rear element is set too far into the mount to focus properly on a Barnack.

It looks like they were experimenting with making the focus mount cheaper. The mount looks like the Jupiter-8 or Industar-26 mount of that age. Single guide pin. The mechanism of the J-8 does not allow the entire helical to moved ins the mount to align the RF cam, distance scale, and actual focus.

It's a good price, but the standard mount is likely to be better. It is an interesting piece at a good price. I'm up to 5 KMZ J-3's, but am tempted. But: the regular J-3 is likely a better made mount with more corrections that can be made.

I seen that before a few years ago, I wondered if someone cobbled the lens module of a J3 into a J8 focusing mount, if that is ever possible.

the DOF engraving only goes to f 2 like on a J-8

Brian: I was thinking along similar lines. If like Uwe suggests it is for the Zenit SLR then there might not be enough adjustment available to hack it to work to the LTM standard.

I'm sure it is not for the Zenit. The back-focus of the J-3 can clear the mirror AND the lens has an RF cam on it. It is RF coupled for the Leica mount. I just think the I-26 style mount is inferior.
