Anyone still shoot with their SLR's?

OK, well I'll admit to still owning an Olympus OM10 I bought new sometime about 1980 - can't sell it 'cause it's not worth selling! I've only put one roll of film through it in the last few years.

And in a moment of madness I recently bought a Canon AL-1 QF (Quick Focus) with FD 50/1.8 lens - it was cheap and seemed to be begging me to take it home and clean it up. It works ok too. Aperture priority or fully automatic, with match-needle metering and a system to tell you when it's in focus (good for those of us with poor eyesight!). I saw a wesite reference to it as being almost rangefinder-like. (Hah!) Are these worth anything?

I re-discovered old Pentax SLR - I mean the real old, small ones, prior to the Spotmatic. Even older than my oldest Canon Rangefinder and the same fun to use. Have one with an 58mm or 105mm in my camera bag, together with a RF carrying the 35 plus a 21mm. Great lenses. And a lot cheaper these days as well. Lightweight and nicely made!

Hi Frank,

I have a model K, an SV and an SP1000 so I know exactly what you are talking about. I have you to thank in my decision to find an early "automatic" 105/2.8 lens. The photos on your website of early Pentax's and information to be very informative.

Having a 5 month old has given me reason to drag out the Minolta Dynax 5 - a slightly longer lens works well. Someone recently gave me a 3xi body, along with a Canon AE-1 with 50mm. I recently got an f2.5 135mm Canon prime for it too - great for portrait shots - and I've run a couple of rolls of Neopan 1600 through them. Quite an impressive film, just wish they made it in 120 size too.

Also fairly recently I got hold of a Pentacon 6 TL with 80mm and 50mm. I quite like using this beast, especially with the 50mm

Still, my usual carry around camera remains the Iskra or one of the other 6x6 or 6x9 folders.

Joe, if I serve as your 2nd, I'll bring the Komura.

D2: Is that the 18cm F6.3 Tele-Tessar? RARE BEAST!
Nice set; it looks like we're back to an even duel 😀 (although Joe hasn't revealed his hand yet). You're a good friend to volunteer -- not many would agree to go to Hawaii in the middle of February 😉. Yes, that is the Tele-Tessar -- showed up Saturday. If I could only move on household chores as fast as I get "C&C" shots together...

I often use my Pentax ME Super... it's a lot smaller than my Yashica Electro GTN! But now I pretty much use it exclusively for 24mm shots, although I do have 28, 50, 85 and 135 Pentax primes, and a 70-210 Vivitar Series 1 zoom, they don't get used much now. Now that I have a near working Bessa R2, I'll use it even less.

Well, I am completely new to RFs having had my Canon QL17 for less than a week now and have only put 2 rolls of film through it. But based on my brief time with the Canonet QL17 RF I don't think I'll be giving up using my Canon EOS Elan 7NE SLR anytime soon; both types of cameras have different applications for me.

It is simply lens envy. That is a beauty, and very rare. Everyone remembers the 18cm F2.8 "Olympic" Sonnar, but it was Viso-Flex only. I had an 18cm F3.5 Goerz Primotar in direct Contax mount, but it was not RF coupled. Looked like a custom job. Sold it toward the SP.

But if I want to whip out MY big 10inch, it is the Nikkor 25cm F4, manual version. Made for the Nikon "Visoflex", I bought it with the N-F adapter. So it will get used on the SLR.

D2 -- Is that your K bike behind that tube?
Yes, it is a K75 and I actually bought it for my wife; the picture I keep to remind me that she was almost a "biker chic." She didn't quite make it to the MSF Safety Course (required for a license here in Idaho). The night before we were to begin the class she told me it was just too frighteneing for her and she didn't want to pursue it. I respect her decision; the potential for an accident increases greatly if she was doing something outside her comfort level.

Not quite right Brian.

The first olympic ones ARE indeed RF coupled. I have one of those.

In picture, of course. But admit that for half a second, I got you.

I've found the best way to teach women the art of motorcycle management is to start them on something quite small. Yamaha Serow XT225, Hodaka 100cc Road Toad. Suzuki Savage. And, of course, to make sure the seat height is low enough so that their heels can rest easily on the pavement.
