Hi - just curious if any of you had tried this film developer and what you thought of it - LegacyPro Mic-X Film Developer (from Freestyle)
I used to use the original Microdol-X 1:3 with Tri X many years ago and liked it's grain structure - would like to use it again
Thanks in advance
David

Think Different
I bought some last year. From what I can tell, it’s very much like the Kodak Microdol-X, especially when used straight. I’m using it primarily with 4X5 Tri-X, exposed at 160, in my Busch Pressman. Really great tones.

Many thanks Jim - I would use it at 1:3 dilution with 35mm Tri-X.
I asked b/c I just scanned in sold old shots I took years ago and the grain pattern and size is more to my liking than recent one developed in HC110-B
Cheers

6x9cm Ilford FP4+ developed in Freestyle Legacy Mic-X. I mix replenisher and the stock solution lasts forever. Mine is almost four years old and still going strong. Plaubel Makina III with 100mm F4.2 Anticomar (rare SHARP Plaubel lens). This is about exactly the same as Perceptol. My favorite developer that I use for everything.

I mix replenisher according to the Kodak Microdol-X replenishment instructions, available on the internet. Basically you use 3/4 gals of water with a one gallon packet, and add Sodium Carbonate. Result is Mic-X replenisher. I substitute Freestyle Legacy Mic-X for the Kodak stuff, and it works just fine. The proof is in the pudding.
Add 30 ml per roll (80 sq inches). I always replenish right after using the developer.
Since it lasts for many many years, the cost of development per roll is VERY low.
And the results are excellent.

Microdol-X was my standard developer for many years.
Is anyone using the Arista clone for 5222?
If so, details please...
TIA,
Chris

Thanks. Good Luck with it.
I think it's just simply great stuff

Truth is beauty
David,
I've used it and it's great.
By the way, some of Eric Van Straten's photographs with a half frame Olympus use fine grain film and Microdol/Mic-X, if I remember well: they're so good, I couldn't believe only half a negative was used... His wonderful scanning is another part of the great end result, just in case you want to do a search...

FWIW I always used it one-shot, mixed 1:1. My 35mm Panatomic-X, Verichrome, Plus-X
and Tri-X negs always came out real nice; however IIRC there was a little speed loss.

Thanks Chris - what sort of a speed loss for TriX did you find?

1/2 to one full stop with most films including good old Tri-X 400.
Today I'd try EI 320 to start and adjust as required based on results.

Legacy Pro MIC-X is listed neither on The Massive Dev Chart nor Freestyle's own http://www.freestylephoto.biz/film-development-chart#chart
If instructions are included with your order please let us know if recommended times differ from those published for original Kodak Microdol-X.

I just developed two rolls (one roll each time) of Pan F Plus 15 minutes stock at 68 degrees. I use the Microdol-X section from the Massive Developing Chart.

Chris - Will do - they should be here next week.
Thanks Bill - that's what I had assumed . Was the film speed effectively the same for Pan F in your case?
