I've never been satisfied with fixed prescription glasses, any more than a fixed focus camera lens.

Now we finally have available adjustable lens glasses. Is anyone using them yet? What do you think?

I'm curious. Work? how much do they cost? I read something, but it seems that they are still at an early stage

Nowhere as handy as progressive varifocals (where a shift in head position will focus anywhere you want) - they require you to manually re-focus the glasses (via a knob or slider) for each viewing distance. Heavy and ugly, too - the proposed application is a cheap off-the shelf substitute for progressives, for income groups that cannot afford proper personally adapted glasses.

Whenever electronically re-focusing glasses become a reality (and AF modules and energy sources are downsized so that they fit inside a frame) that would grow into a more serious proposition.

varifocals aren't widely available in the US yet.

There are only a couple of brands shipping that have wide ranges, one is adlens, which has two technologies, the lower end models (~$30-40) uses screws to separate two lens elements to cover a range of ~ -4.5 to +3 D.

The higher end ones use liquid, but are designed to be adjusted only once, and then remain at a fixed setting.

None that I'm aware of above correct for astigmatism, and the build quality and styling leave a lot to be desired.
