I just bought an M9 and am thinking about getting a Thumbs Up accessory, but I don't want to spend a lot on something I may never use. Has anyone tried the cheaper ones for sale on Ebay or Amazon? Do you find it necessary?

Any opinions are appreciated.

I first had the thumbsup then sold it and use the thumbie instead. I did not like the way the thumbsup removed access to the hot shoe. Or the size of it.

That's an issue for me too (the hot shoe), but I found a $6 one on Ebay that I'll try (but I'm sure I'll wind up not using it).

I add MO based on ANY operant granted.

Any thumbs up or whatever it is called is useless waste of money.

Maybe for you!

I find it allows me to hold the camera much steadier at lower
shutter speeds and improves the handling of the camera.
What I dont like is if u carry the camera w a neck strap the thumbie and thumbsup can jab u.

I have used a number of them variously branded, designed for different cameras and like them. They do help stabilize the camera and particularly with some bodies improve "purchase" and ability to hold them. I have a "no name" one on my M8 now. I would not pay the $100+ demanded for the original one which seems vastly excessive for such a simple piece of equipment though some are willing. Just make sure yours is compatible with the M8/M9 as the accessory shoe for them does require a slightly different shape to the thumbie's mounting point for perfect mounting and you don't want the handle too long or too short for the M body either.

It doesn't get any cheaper than using those little plastic stick on feet things that every hardware store sells. They come in a round 5/16" and a round ½" version. The ½' is flat the other isn't. I use a little alky to clean the surface and they stick for quite some time. No stress on the hot shoe either.

I 3D printed one for my old M9

I can send you the .STL if you would like to print one yourself.

Can you elaborate please? Which part are you talking about? Sounds intriguing.

Huss, I saw one of those for sale on shape works.com, but for almost $50 it doesn't seem worth it. (And I don't have access to a 3D printer.)
