Hi, just curious but was wondering whether anyone has used or is currently using a Leica 75mm/f1.4 Summilux on an Epson R-D1. Seems it would be a pretty difficult lens to use given the combination of long focal length, 1.53x crop factor, lack of framelines, etc...not to mention a slightly shallower DOF when compared to the Noctilux wide open!
Seeing the thread on the "big bertha" and M8 combo got me thinking...and drooling. Then seeing the Leica rep at Samy's on Fairfax in LA and handling the M8 at length with its amazing viewfinder has left me just plain lustful.
If anyone has experience with the 75 Summilux on an R-D1, I'd be interested in hearing about it, especially if the use of a magnifier and/or lens+body calibration was necessary.

My only 75 is the 'cron but i've used the 'lux a couple of times yet. No problem at f/2.8 with a good sight, difficult at f/2 without magnifier, but nearly impossible at f/1.4 due to the short base length of the rangefinder.

LCT, thanks for your initial reply.
Since I heard nothing but crickets afterwards, I thought I would give the 75 Summilux and R-D1 combination a try myself. With the aid of a Megaperls 1.3x magnifier, here are a few images I took tonight at f/1.4.
I think the magnifier is absolutely key because it not only aids in focusing, but also helps me "see" in 50mm and 75mm fields of view by enlarging the area seen inside the 50mm frameline and getting rid of the extraneous space outside of the frameline. (Up until now, I had mainly been shooting with 28mm and 35mm focal lengths.) The magnifier significantly improved focusing accuracy even when using a high speed 50mm lens wide open. Now I wonder if I'll ever get used to not having the magnifier when using the shorter lenses!
