Anyone using Pixelmator ?

Pixelmator is now on sale in the Mac AppStore for $14.99. While Aperture pretty much does everything I ever need to do, I almost cannot pass this deal up.

Anybody out there using this?

but since switching to an SSD, Photoshop starts so quickly that I do not bother anymore, most of the time.

Well, I went ahead and bought it last night because it was so cheap. Now I have to find the right image to use it on.

I couldn't resist buying it but haven't had a chance to use it much. UI is very nice. I feel a lot more comfortable with PS for the work I do so Pixelmator was kind of a silly purchase. Love that someone created a truly great image editor to compete (in some respects) with PS.

As I posted earlier, I could not pass it up for $14.99. I have been watching the tutorials on the Pixelmator site and I am impressed. Not ever having used PS, Pixelmator looks like an absolute go to church and confess your sin steal.

I use it whenever I need 'Photoshop', rather than lightroom4.
Unfortunately, on both my relatively new Macs running Mountain Lion, the dreaded "rotating ball' shows up. None of my other applications run that slow. Don't know why, but apparently common problem if you do a Google search...

I've started playing with it, but I would agree that the latest version on Mountain Lion is too slow to use effectively - and I have 8G of RAM on my Macbook which is working fine with Aperture.

From the Pixelmator support topic noted above, it appears that they are aware of the problem and working on it. Looking forward to a fix since I think this could be very useful to me.

I used a trial of it a while back while I was working out the crazy licensing of Photoshop when I switched computers. Seemed quite capable although I wasn't in the mood to learn a new UI after using PS for so many years, so I never bought it. I would highly recommend it for someone who has the time to learn how to use it and isn't ingrained on other software.

Version 2.1.1 was released on September 18th. While not a definitive test, I did some brief testing last night with the new version and the performance does seem to be improved over 2.1.

I use it, but not really for image editing to be honest.. I use Aperture for that. I didn't want to buy Photoshop as I don't have a need for it and find it too expensive, and Aperture does all the photo editing I really need, so I bought Pixelmator, for small stuff like when I want to add a border or make some kind of diptych or a banner or whatever, or make some adjustments to a drawing, scanned or made on the iPad. It works fine for these purposes. I honestly have never tried editing a photo in other ways, is it any good for that? 🙂

Anyway, enjoy, it really is cheap, and thankfully not too complicated to understand, and, a big plus, Apple native. I hated Gimp because it didn't really work for me on an apple. Not that intuïtive. (and ugly.. :S )
