I'm just curious if anyone actually uses the video possibilities in the Leica M. Please feel free to post additional information. Thanks for watching!

In wildlife photography it is very useful to be able to capture action besides stills without changing the camera. A 400 on the 240 outperforms any "normal" video camera by an amazing margin.

I tried the video on it for fun.
Was not a huge fan of the quality.
Maybe the next version will have a better video mode.

I've recently started to use the video function on my M240 for a set of How-To vidoes (tearing an engine apart) and am using it side by side with my Canon 6d.
The 6d is far more versatile, but being able to use the rangefinder to check ficus as the camera is rolling is really nice

So far, the (early) poll results confirm my expectation that few of us would be hot for this feature. I personally took it as sort of an insult. ;)

It is a bit silly imo to oppose a feature that does not get in the way just because one does not use it. Just forget it is there...I do 99 % of the time:rolleyes:
I have the M240 since the beginning and have never tripped the video button accidentally. One must hold the camera strangely to manage to do so.
Ever since it got disableable there is no reason to feel strongly about this anyway.
If one uses the camera with a wrist strap one does not get all upset about the second strapplug either...

Video comes with CMOS and adds virtually nothing to the cost of production. Some people like to use it, As I said to insert in their workflow occasionally, a reporter will be happy to get a talking head from time to time, some like to shoot some video with the character of a Ldeica lens, etc.
Just let them be and ignore nit otherwise.

Why bother? Because I will have an M240 with me, not a Canon. If I would have to schlepp a second camera just for Video (extremely unlikely) it would be a video camera, not something basically designed for still photography.

While the Canon and Nikon are both more versital as a whole for digital video, I can think of a few reasons for using the H240 over them, mainly if I wanted to shoot specific lenses that are un-usable on reflex full frame camera. For instance the 50mm Sonnar lens and similar. So if you wanted to shoot specific glass for their specific effects, then the H240 would be perfect.

Sure, for the occasional grab it's fine. If you're more serious about video, you'll likely have the Canon (at least).
