Some shots in my gallery with the 50 Skopar too. I have not used the lens a whole lot, but I do like it. I heard that "soft" description and tried to pin down the meaning of that with two guys who used the lens... one was a Norwegian member of CVUG list whose PAW was full of 50 Skopar pics. They insisted they didn't mean "unsharp." As best I could make out, it's a gentleness of rendition they had in mind; smooth. In my brief use I'd agree with that assessment. It's sharp, has fine contrast and color rendition, nice bokeh, etc, that contribute to its being the best-selling Voigtlander lens in Japan. It's small for a 50mm, with Voigtlander's latest and best build quality. I had to be convinced, and buying a used one at a reasonable price overcame some concerns. I'd do it again.
Among other gallery pics shot with this lens, I have several test pairs of a full-neg shot and a 100%-size crop out of it. You'll find these with a search of my Gallery (click link below). Searching on "50mm Skopar" will bring up some to look at, not just mine.
