Aperture to Photos for x100f Raw & using Silver Efex?

reviving this thread; Ive over stayed my welcome on Aperture for a number of practical reasons using x100f. Looking for feed back on Raw/JPEG import of files/Minimal Editing/converting to Silver Efex for B&W (very import), import from Aperture Albums/projects/notes for Capture One vs Light Room versus your favorite to export images to email-Instagram/Flickr- very minimal needs.... I just tried importing a .raf image from the x100f into Photos (I have the full Nix tool kit installed w/ photoshop on my MacBook Pro) and I couldn't even get Photos to recognize the image. All I got was a gray square with a big exclamation point inside which I'm guessing means no go.

Here is the ios10 recognized camera list. Fuji X100f is not on it.
They may cover it with the latest update of Camera RAW.
Try doing a software update.
Today High Sierra is available from apple so I imagine there is a new update for Camera RAW now or soon.

All: Thanks. I called Apple and spoke with a Aperture Specialist, he indicated 100f RAW was supported, he also spoke to Photos capabilities and how I am using it now, what I can see I would lose brushes capability though for the most part I would be OK, seems Apples strategy since they the plug on Aperture is to build feature function slowly AND through 3rd party extension products. Last, I am a Silver Efex fan/user for my B&W PP, I am encouraged that DxO purchased the Nik Collection and committed enhancements mid 2018, so despite having to finally move off Aperture, I hear decent things about Photos. My plan B if I am unhappy with Photos is to consider Capture One, I understand the UI is somewhat closer to Aperture than other options, I had a LR trial and the UI did not appeal to me.... Thank You!

So Ive recently upgraded to X100f, can't process Raw images in Aperture thus forcing me to Photos as a quick cure BUT I do not want to give up Silver Efex for B&W PP- anyone use Photos with Silver Efex for extensions? I know DxO now owns Nik Collection/Silver Efex but can not find anything if they will support Apple Photo with Silver Efex as a plug in/Extension

The High Sierra (and Sierra) Photos App is terrible. I have not tried any plug-ins. Apple is historically way behind raw rendering Apps at supporting new camera raw formats.

I thought it was possible to use the NIK Collection as stand-alone apps. Perhaps this is no longer an option.

DxO says they will start shipping an updated version of the NIK Collection in mid 2018. They also announced they replacing DxO OpticsPro with DxO PhotoLab. DxO PhotoLab will incorporate NIK's Control Points technology. There is a free trial version. The basic version is $99 (on sale) and the advanced version is $149 (on sale.

I have no idea what (if any) of Siver Efex Pro II's rendering aesthetics are available in DxO PhotoLab.

frustrated. I upgraded to high siera, tried Photos and can't use silver efex I can't seem to import raw images, thus not cutting it. I simply need to do minimal PP, image management ( like aperture) be able to import my fuji x100f jpeg & raw files AND use silver efex for B&W pp. Any answers out there? I dont like the LR user interface/

Hi Daniel.
I was a long-time Aperture user and stuck with it for as long as I could after Apple stopped supporting it. The need to change came when I bought a new Fuji camera that wasn't supported by Aperture. For awhile I just used OOC jpegs, but finally gave up and switched to Lightroom. Now, when I've finally gotten somewhat used to the Lightroom UI, I hear Adobe is planning to switch Lightroom over to the subscription model. I HATE the idea of paying monthly fees to use my software (not necessarily rational, I know)! So now what?

There are some new contenders for stand-alone post processing software coming to the game. I'm keeping an eye on MacPhun's Luminar. I'm waiting to see reviews of these processors before making a decision to switch (YET AGAIN!!). One issue not mentioned here that's important to me is having a processing software that has the library functions built-in. Luminar does not yet do that, but they say they're working on it.

Have you researched Pixelmator($30)? It's only available in the App Store. I understand it will work with either Pixelmator Core Image or Quartz Composer based plug-ins.

Be aware, Pixelmator will release a major upgrade (Pixelmator Pro 1.0, $60) in a couple of weeks.

Pixelmator, On1 Photo Raw, Affinity Photo and MacPhun Luminar all offer free trials, generally for 7-30 days. I've tested all of them, and still haven't found one that would work well for me (handling 200MB+ scanned greyscale large format images), but they're all worth testing.

Photos is frustratingly slow for doing even simple RAW editing. I do my RAW conversions and editing in Capture 1 (was able to purchase a cheap license available to only Sony users) and import jpegs into Photos. The one Photos tool I do like is the Light adjustment. I tend to use that on all my jpegs after I import them.
