I went in for my one-on-one at the Apple store and mentioned that Aperture didn't support the D-Lux 4 in raw. The teacher pointed out that there was an update online to add the D-Lux 4. And indeed there is. She did the download for me. It does make a difference. Now, the RAW thumbnails will display in the browser. But when I try to bring them up in the viewer, the picture briefly flashes, and is then replaced with a message: this format is not supported.

Has anyone else run across this? Must be a glitch in the new update.

Must be a glitch in the new update

Not necessarily.

I've seen similar symptoms before with Aperture 2. In OSX, the raw conversion is done by the operating system, not the application software. You can test to see if the problem lies with the raw conversion or with the application by trying to open your raw files via the Preview application. (ie, just double-click on them in the Finder and they should open in Preview. Alternatively, run Preview and then do an "Open" on one of your raw files).

I've seen the symptoms you describe with Aperture 2 but with a different digital camera, it is a known problem with Aperture 2. I didn't have the problem very often, and it was usually "fixed" by simply quitting and restarting Aperture.

For what it's worth, I have yet to see this problem with Aperture 3.

Thanks! It isn't working for me, but that doesn't prove anything since I'm still nearly all thumbs with the MAc. I go in for a one-on-one lesson Friday. I'll have the instructor read your note and we'll go from there.

Thanks again!

Yes, the finder did open and display my D-Lux 4 raw files. However, the tech at the Apple store feels that I may have misunderstood the upgrade. He's thinking it was only for Aperture 3. I'm pretty sure it said Aperture 2, though. He did download an update for iPhoto. NowI can open and work with my D-Lux 4 raw files in iPhoto. It would be strange if they wouldn't furnish a D-Lux 4 update for Aperture 2. I have not given up yet.
