Approaching your Subject

Luckily as a volunteer for several organizations I get the opportunity to photo subjects that come to our table. We have kids craft projects, so kid and parents are happily showing off their skills at art/craft.

Being an old guy with lots of time on his hands, I do a lot of walking around with a camera. Not so much on the street, more at a public place, or event. My take on candid versus asking permission is based on whether or not I think the subject can be expected to continue what they were doing that caught my eye and made me want to take the shot. If yes, then I will sometimes ask permission for the shot, (especially if a child is involved). If no, I will take the shot and then deal with the response if any, from the subject.

Regards, Paul C.

Here is a shot taken head-on from about 15 feet.

I will also shoot from the back if that is the shot I want. 😀

This was taken at a surfing competition with beach babes all over the place.

Best regards, Paul C.

Paul,
God bless Texas - LOL. Nice shots. Some subjects look better goin' than coming.

Yes, but frontal shots can be pleasing too. 😎

Best regards, Paul C.

Joe,
As a quote, that is what he said. "Paraphrase" is what I did though 😉
At my age, watching or touching gets me in trouble 😛

Paul,
Reminds me of the Chili Cookoff championships I used to attend - YIKES. Mucho Tequila and then Wet T-Shirt contests. Aaaah, those were the days.

Ok, had to post this one due to comments and photos above:

🙂

Leica M3, Summicron 50, Acros 100

Rich, now you confused me with your sexual orientation. 😀

...and I was there to see Michael Schumacher

Let's just say that the photo does not reflect my personal preferences in the area and that that's as close as I would go 🙂

Rich,
As you live in San Fran, the bay area has a "reputation" we're sure you're aware of - LOL.
My neice and her husband, who live in Walnut Creek, both work there and love it. We attended her wedding at Jack London's Winery park, very nice area indeed. 😎

OK, first of all Paul starts off by saying that he is a "old guy." Obviously he hasn't slowed down.

Now Richard.

Richard, Richard, Richard...

I saw the fun you were rustling up over at Photo.net...
But I have to throw a flag here.

I think we have to suspend you for that shot Richard.
No, you can keep posting and stuff, but you have to send me your M3 for two weeks. (Please😀 )

Richard! I did not know you like such stuff! 😛 Just joking, I would not have the courage to take that shot if I was there. Makes me wonder what is the practical significance of a hole in the pants? 😉

Even though I like low camera angle shots, I wouldn't have the guts to get that kind of butt shot. Hats off to Richard.

Peter, as you live in such hot weather, that's a very naive question to ask about the practical significance of a hole in the pants. 😉

BTW, how's your hunt for film scanner going? Still narrowing down the choices?
