I've never had a bad time and I think I went to every one we ever had.
Generally we tend to drool over gear and laugh a lot. Also there are many talented people to inspire you. These meet-ups have helped me become a better shooter, but the GAS can kill you.
Anyway over all a lot of fun. That's why we tend to have them 11 months out of a year. Sometime inadvertently we skip a month, but its never planned.

All sounds good, except...what is GAS?

AndreDosSantos has been a huge souce of GAS for me. I use to only shoot 35 mm, but Andre shows me his Rollei TLR at the very first Meet-Up, then he showed me some of his work.
Soon impulse took over, and the next thing is that I am buying all this medium format gear that is now currently in my signature. The GAS can get really crazy, especially because there can be insane amounts of cameras and lenses at these meet-ups.

I think it is important to note that while these meet-ups do tend to have a lot of nice (and/or rare or expensive) gear lying around, we also talk about photography and whatever else is going on in the world. Expensive / Rare gear is not a requirement for attendance. People bring cheap SLRs, little folders, TLRs, P&S digital cameras, and other cool stuff all of the time. CNNY even makes his own equipment (or mods existing equipment) which is very cool. There is no snobbery allowed.

Also a lot of interesting people from all over the world and many visitors come by when they are in New York.
Most of all a lot of talented shooters.

Steve F, jsrockit & Calzone: You guys know how to put a newcomer at ease! This definition of GAS is definitely of the least offensive type
Though I really want to, I can come only if I find out that I still have access to the darkroom where I was learning and interning. As it is I've already 20+ rolls from Hong Kong that need to be developed (would not have shot them had I not been away from the darkroom since i'm just starting to print and was loving it!). I'd hate to start something without being able to finish with the last cycle of printing.
Famous last words I'm about to utter: I don't think I'll be affected by the GAS since I'm a beginner who already have a Minolta for 35 mm, and a Holga for medium format, and access to an old Leica for RF...strong curiosity for TLR notwithstanding....

Understandable...you don't want to get too behind. Come to the meet-up at Puck Fair on May 1. You don't have to take photos... just come meet some fellow NY-ers, look at gear, talk and learn from others, and have a drink (alcohol or non). Perhaps someone will have a TLR for you to check out.

haha, yes this GAS is a real phenomenon!
within the past week i've picked up 2 more lenses. the first, a minty biogon 35/2 after admiring John's at our last outing. unluckily for my bank account, i happened to stumble upon this lovely lens only after purchasing a user Canon 35/2 ltm the day before...
and andre, we definitely should do a group shoot out in your neighborhood. maybe you can introduce us to some more tasty treats?

Now if someone has a baby-rolleiflex, that would be cool. I've never seen one in person.

You need to hit the noodle shops (the ones you have to go into dirty basement for)... I just hope my girlfriend doesn't make me go back there for Karaoke! :bang:

If you wanna avoid GAS stay away from Andre. He is no good I tell you. LOL.
GEAR ALERT: I'll bring my new Nikkor 35/1.8 LTM. My M6 with the TA Rapidwinder, TA Rapidgrip, and custom handstrap more and more is morphing into a Nikon F3 with motordrive. Now we even have a Nikon lens.

Sunday, May 1 works for me, so count me in.
Inspired by the jsrocket's Bessa R3 at the last meetup, I'll bring my Zeiss Ikon for this one.
Maybe someone will have an X100 to show off?
Also, I think I will be parting ways with a Color Skopar Classic 35mm f/2.5 (LTM, six-bit coded adapter, box, LH-2 hood, etc.). If anyone is interested, let me know and I'll bring it.

Dunstan, sounds good, let's do it, next weekend?
Anyone has a ZM Sonnar 50 1.5 or CV 50 Nokton 1.5? I have never tried these two lenses, maybe I shouldn't...

Remind me to bring up about setting up possible food and shoot Meet-Ups now that the weather is improving.
We live in a great city, and the last time we met up was a great feast of Indian food. I'm hungry for more.
Beer and gear is fun, but food and shoot can be a good addition.
