I've developed many types of film but I've never seen yellow effluent pour out with the developer until last night. Looked like lemonade. Film was APX100, developer Rodinal, and the roll developed smashingly well (so I can rule out accidentally pouring my stop-bath in, instead of developer. ;) )

What is that yellow stuff, and why does apx100 have it?

Rodinal is known for stripping the AH layer out of many films. That's probably what you're seeing. It's usually taken out via a combination of the fixer and HCA.

Yellow? For me, both APX100 & APX400 pour out purple with Rodinal, a dark purple too!

"Taking a leak." That's what I thought at first, but I opted to describe it as lemonade instead. ;) It's still weird.

I usually only get colored pours with 120 or 4x5, which is usually an exciting, psychedelic purple, and the dye typically comes out with the pre-soak. With Rodinal I sometimes get very light purple effluent when I pour out the developer, but that tends to only happen when the film has been in longer than 12-13 minutes.

This film that poured yellow from the developer (not the pre-soak, which came out clear) is normal 24-exposure APX100 in a 135 can. The effluent smelled normal, looked normal, probably tasted normal (though I dared not find out). I've just purchased a bulk roll of this stuff (100' for $23.50!) so I'll soon find out if it's a normal occurence. It's still weird though, I've done APX400, Tri-X, TXP, 100/400 TMX, PX, FP4, HP5, Delta 100, Neopan 100/400, Forte, etc. and I've never seen a developer pour out yellow before.

In any case, no harm, no foul, so I'll just file this one under "darkroom oddities" and get on with my life. :) Thanks for the replies, all.

I have never seen a yeloow-green from APX but a red/purplish one. Maybe is a new AH back or coating.

If the negs turned out godd, then nothing to worry ;)

I usually soup my apx100 in Rodinal 1:50 for 16 min's, which probably accounts for my almost deep purple water. I guess there might also be a difference in the water we use as well.
