Hello all,

I am looking for an L plate for my M2 (and maybe my M5 if the same plate can fit).

I have narrowed to these:

http://www.metro-case.com/grips/leicam

I was wondering if you have one of these for an M2. There is a comment about the Acratech not exactly matching an MP at :

Also saw this one from China :

But for this one the camera does not seem held by the plate, only by the grip..

I haven’t found an L plate for the M bodies yet. I currently have the Acratech plate. It attaches to the tripod mount and is designed to keep the camera from shifting. For an analog M camera, it’s the best choice for the price. I’ve used it on both the M2 and M4 without problems and had not heard about compatibility issues with the MP. If you want to spend a lot more money, Really Right Stuff makes one that is pretty much the same design. I have used the RRS plate on both the M2 and M6 TTL with good results. It holds the camera solidly, restricting movement even with a Visoflex and belllows. The grip shown in the last link looks like it has the center tripod mount and is designed for digital Leicas. The Arcatech isn’t a big investment and is worth checking out.
P.S. I forgot the RRS plate had been discontinued but you can still find them in the second hand market. Good luck with your search.

You are right, the last one seems to not fit at all. Thanks for spotting this, it's the kind of mistake that I can actually easily make... 😀

Also I have checked reviews about the second one which appealed to me (because the L shape), yet it is made of plastic. Probably 3D printed as an Amazon customer has mentioned.
I don't know how it will hold in time if used with a metal Arca head.

Will probably go for the acratech.

The Nylon 12 used in the second one is very robust, yet very light. It's not going to wear at all. Plus it is a grip, not just a plate.

I may get the Acratech for the M5 and this nylon one for the M2. I am a bit intrigued to know if the grip can add anything ..

I got the second one for my M2. I think it will last a long time if the QR clamp is not over-tightened. The material is very "grippy" and makes it easy to hold the camera securely. I like the fact the material is relatively soft because the bottom plate of my M2 is unusually free of tripod marks and I wanted to protect it. Also the grip has a centered, steel, tripod mount, which can be handy when used without a clamp.

Hello all,

I am looking for an L plate for my M2 (and maybe my M5 if the same plate can fit).

I have narrowed to these:

I've emailed Acratech directly, and they confirmed the 2148 plate also fits the M5. So in theory, it should fit both cameras. That said, you could always contact them to confirm. They were very responsive when I submitted the question through the form on their Contact Us page.
