A so-called "pocket park." Developers get to add height to new buildings under the very convoluted Byzantine zoning laws in NYC if they build miniature public spaces. A park so small it could fit in your pocket. They are generally no wider than a brownstone building (brownstones were typically something like 17.5 feet wide). If I'm not mistaken, this pocket park or perhaps another one nearby now has a few segments of the Berlin wall on display.

Thanks Rob. You do make me want to look at my 80's negs in a new light. I can scan them now too ( though I might not choose to ;) )
